I returned from a Royal Caribbean cruise just yesterday. We booked it after having a great cruise last November. They must have made some policy changes after the new year because it was not enjoyable at all.

The menu has changed with far less options, and the food went from amazing in November to just okay. They are REALLY pushing the paid dining options, and I think a strategy is to make the free main dining experience less appealing.

There are generally three people who help you with your cruise: a main server, an assistant server, and a room attendant. In the past they have been fantastic. I am wondering if Royal issued a pay cut to employees because all the workers seemed just plain sad, and the service was pretty bad. Moving around the ship, the morale of the crew seemed really somber, too. Not the typical smiles and greetings, and some crew would even mutter stuff under their breath as we passed by. Several times I heard crew making fun of or hating on "Americans".

The cruise was also woefully crowded. Not a seat to spare, and despite there being signage to not save seats or deck chairs, everybody still did it without so much as a prompt from the crew. It was impossible to sit anywhere but your room, and lines for anything were unbelievably long. That's typical on a cruise, but this one was over the top.

Two other things... the ship constantly smelled like weed. There are smoking sections, but nobody cared to follow that rule, so every inch smelled like nasty, skunky weed.

Then at night, 12 am to 3 am, somebody in a nearby stateroom was blasting loud music. After complaints from several nearby staterooms, the crew did nothing to stop it or help.

I used to love cruises... now I don't think I'll go on one again.

Most of your points have been said a thousand times in the last 25 years. Best one of all was "many staterooms nearby complained". Did you take a poll?
I went and talked to other people to see if the music was coming from their room, so yes.

Which cruise was this? If you mentioned kids, I would have assumed it was a Carnival trip.
It was Royal Caribbean. The weird thing was that we sailed on RC just a few months ago out of Galveston and had an amazing time. I just cant fathom how the experience was so good in one port and so poor in another (Miami).

Not all ships are created equal. One ship from the same Royal Caribbean line may not be the same as other ships. Hopefully what you say about RC is not true that they try to cheap out and change the experience and service level they normally provide with all of their cruises. There are reviews of each ship on cruise website like cruisecritic, and some ships in the fleet are not as good if you look it up.

There are also a lot of competition and cruise goers do expect certain level of experience from RC. I can only imagine RC would do this at their own perils.

Alaska sounds wonderful until you actually go and realize it's a desperately poor almost third world crime ridden place that you never want to stray from the tourist areas. Most people don't go back. If anyone takes this deal my strong advice is never leave the boat.
I think you probably have not even gone there. Alaska is beautiful and I guaranty most want, and do go back.

So pre-massive inflation prices then.

Has anyone been on this vessel or itinerary? Have been really wanting to do an Alaskan cruise.
Went in may, first real no mask post pandemic to alaska. Quantum of the seas. Ship sucks, long lines no room at bars ever, no openings for excursions. No space for ride signup. Upcharges for everything. Terrible food outside the dining room. No late night selections besides pizza. The ports were a mess. Victoria b.c. was barely a 3 hour stop. It was supposed to be a glacier tour and we did not see 1 glacier (qent 3 hours in an inlet just to turn around for small chunks of ice (that seemingly did not get bigger, 100% sure they were just late to the next port) best part of the cruise was the crisp cool weather all week and white line rail road in skagway. In ketchikan i rented an atv from a local, by far the highlight. Drove out to an island and went up a mountain, was 10 feet from a grizzly bear. Everything else involving the ship was miserable. nasty loud kids/family banging the walls next door and rude international "citizens" everywhere made me want to request a refund.

This reply sounds like complete BS. Sounds like same ship / port as your last cruise? Only reason you mentioned could be worse was the pay cut? Literally no where to sit outside your room? Wow. Ours had tons of chairs on deck that were not used since could not see the pool. Bs again. So much here but the other one about the noise complaint … did you ever ask your attendant and they told you that they could do nothing? Sounds like you needed some of that weed you smelled so much.
Crazy to think someone might have an experience that differed from yours? Imagine that.

Agree. They run this sale ALL...the...time. And it's also not just for Alaskan cruises. Strange post for SlickDeals
Not strange. It's a paid advertisement from Royal Caribbean no different that the Google Ad you would see on the right side of your screen. They pay SD and SD staffer makes a post pretending it's a deal to get people to buy. Pretty simple.
