I had an MF227dw for 8 years and than one was super reliable. I accidentally killed it so I went back to Canon as this black box has served us well. Happy camper and great machine so far, less than 1 watt on standby. Quiet mode is slower but very nice if you work in the same room as the printer. 5 stars for me.

Are you saying printers exist where this isn't the case?!
Brother laser. Sits in my garage for the last 7 years.

Mine works just fine. Got it last Sat and connected it right away. Flawless so far. I use Ethernet with fixed DHCP setup. If you use wireless connection I recommend you give it a fixed IP address, either by configuring static IP or easier in most modern routers you can assign a fixed one via DHCP. Do that first and reboots the printer and the network then. Only then install the printer driver and make sure you install it as a network printer. That should do the trick.

It's easy but the chips I've tried were all known to be counterfeit by my printer. Pain the ass, pressing OK everytime. Also made me reboot like the other guy said. When the last refill ran low I just bit the bullet and found a genuine cart on eBay and everything now works like it should. No reboots anymore. Kind of worth the extra cost for the peace of mind and less hassle. Plus, my printer's in the basement so that was a factor as well.
