The unit itself actually outputs excellent base for its size, but I already had a subwoofer in place from a previous speaker set that I wanted to use. I don't think you'll be disappointed if it's just for a small tv somewhere or even up to a medium-ish sized room / setup.

Looks like it has HDMI ARC?
Wrong, the Bose tv speaker has hdmi arc. It's the new version of the Solo 5 now with center channel tweeter as well for better highs/dialogue

Honestly, I like the sound better from the Series II. The bass from it is a bit boomier, which is surprising given that the housing on the TV Speaker is bigger. The tweeter in the TV Speaker makes voices sounds somewhat tinny to me. The TV Speaker may sound better with HDMI (I'm using with the 3.5mm aux), but I don't really need HDMI for my particular use case. I'm putting this underneath a 27" monitor that's hooked up to my laptop with USB C in the kitchen to listen to music or watch the occasional TV show. Both of these fit the bill due to their compact size, but I think I'm gonna stick with the Series II because of the better bass performance.
They are one of the slowest, worst responders to customer returns you will ever deal with. I have sworn off the brand for life after returning a set of headphones on 12/15 and I am still trying to get my refund processed (on 1/28).
Their customer service chat lines are run from some third world country (you can guess which one), and their reps will make all sorts of promises that they never intend to keep. It's unreal a so called "premium" brand treats their customers so poorly.
You have been warned.
On my LG Oled it does not show the numbers, just a bar with with a plus and minus sign when you change the volume.
