I had a crappy no name TV and the sound was so bad you could barely use it. Buy cheap, buy twice.
Disagree I've had Hisense that's been holding up really good

The 55" TCL 4 series has always been a good deal. The sound is fine for normal watching. Did add a TCL 8i soundbar at one point and a Samsung at the moment just to get Atmos. My only real complaint about the 4 series is the horizontal viewing angle isn't great. Better than the low end (crystal) Samsungs.

I'm still stunned by the quality of my 55'' TCL 6 series, got a great deal and added the Samsung 700b soundbar/woofer when the sale was posted here (and I have a Samsung phone). On top of my proclivity for music, the picture and sound is top notch (for the price point at least).
Thanks! For the price and screen size, it seems pretty hard to beat (even if it craps at out after 2-3 years).
