Pricing may or may not go down heading into Spring...not a bad deal for someone looking at this style of bike!

I purchased a 140 online and called a store to reserve a 160 that they will let me try when they get it, I will probably compare both when they get here and keep one. I was worried about some comments on these not being good for climbing when I reserved the 160 and that's why I decided to order a 140 for hybrid trails.

The value on these is undeniable, good frame with great components. Components wise this beats the StumpJumper by a long shot for a similar price. I was looking at the Stumpjumper alloy as well but the parts on that are very entry-level and I believe too cheap for a $3000 bike. This one instead has better brakes, much better suspension, drivetrain, etc., the frame geometry on the SJ wins from what I've read though.

Anyways, I think this is a good deal for a the brand and components.

Edit: Looks like I didn't explain myself clearly, got replies and downvotes lol. I called the Specialized store and they told me they had a 160 incoming that they could reserve for me and let me try it. Later on, I read that the 160 is an overkill for hybrid trails, was not good for climbing, and that a 140 would be better. The Specialized store didn't have any 140s in stock or on their way so I had to purchase one online for them to ship to the store. Once there, I will be able to test both and the one I don't buy will become part of their inventory.

True. Specialized and Trek and all the biggies with big advertising costs, R&D and overhead will be offering larger discounts. Shops' margins are typically quite high let alone buying direct (even higher of course) and you should hold out for 50% off MSRP, *minimum* imho.

Maybe because pandemic is "over" many had their fill of being outside plus the cost of living is up/inflation, so the demand for bikes is way less than anticipated with how much they've manufactured? Would also like a detailed explanation.

The margin is pretty thin on the base model units.

I got my Epic Comp for about 40% off retail when I bought it a few years ago. It was pre-covid and I know the shop owner. I don't think anyone walking in off the street to a LBS is going to get a 50% off MSRP unless it's an oddball size, leftover from the year before.

Yes, always a leftover new-old stock at the least and only larger volume shops are going to do it. I'm just thinking we might see more, better deals coming up.
