I wrote the following without really realizing I'm not really writing about hydroflask anymore, so stop here if you dont want to read about rtic/ozark trail.
Ozark trail and rtic have been equivalent in my experience. I would actually say ozark trail uses higher quality material compared to rtic tbh, and they're half the price. I do have 2 complaints with ozark trail, that made me go back to rtic (I started w rtic, bought an ozark trail, and then bought another rtic during its recent sale to replace my first rtic bc I dropped it quite a bit, and wanted a different color and something a bit prettier).
I have both of their half gallon jugs. ozark trails is significantly taller, and slimmer. But it is comically taller imo. For something that big, I didn't like that form factor. Also, I have a lot of problems closing the cap on ozark trail. Something with their threading just gave me a hard time. I never had that problem with rtic.
With that being said, ozark trail's material definitely feels higher quality. The steel is thicker; I'd be less concerned w that denting, but was always worried about my rtic. The handle is beefier. Even the rubber that surrounds the handle is nicer. rtic literally has some low quality foam that tears over time; this is both my experience and a friend's who i bought the rtic jug for. And even the cap is beefier. But all these materials also make the jug heavier.
Anyway, these may be "me" problems. I need to bring the jug in my bag when i go play tennis (I bike to the courts). So ozark took up too much room. I personally always have trouble w the cap, and so did my gf, but if youre not inept like us, or dont mind some frustration, then go for ozark. Ozark is about $16-17 cheaper, but rtic had a sale running recently (which I havent seen in a long time) and is priced the same as ozark.
