I think it's great value for money, the speed of the system is fine and CarPlay works wired and wirelessly with my iPhone.
Installation is no more difficult than any other head unit.
All I wanted was to modernize my car to have a touchscreen, view backup camera, and wireless carplay for call/text/navigation/no wired hookup.
Audio and video accompaniments are secondary to me where this checked all my boxes!
Great product compared to $700+ for more reputable aftermarket head units that support wireless carplay!
Make a YouTube and discuss how you do it. Get some views. Just be normal, people will love it
Most car stereos have a yellow wire that is supposed to be connected to a constant power source to help it remember FM presets in some other settings. You'll probably want to have two power supplies one which is always on to connect the yellow wire too and another one that's switched so that you can turn it on and off. I suppose you could just connect the yellow and red wires together to the power source and leave the power source on all the time then you can use the on off button on the radio to control power
Lmao. I almost choked my lunch food after reading your comment. Thanks for the laugh!
The specs that I would pay attention to are CPU and memory.
Again....bottom baseline would be Quad core, 4gig Ram and 16-32GB memory.
I would probably lean heavily on the side of 32GB. And I would likely not consider under 4Gig of ram. It is not that you can't add a card for more memory but just like a tablet, the apps usually run off the internal memory only and the expanded storage is for media files.
In general, think phone/tablet. What specs would make you move on from considering a phone?
The specs you need in a quality phone/tablet are what you are going to need here.
As for a single source, that one is a little tougher. I tend to research things to death.....in general. In this case, it was a lot of Youtube reviews, Reddit, XDA Forums is decent. And there was a crap ton of looking up everything that I could find.
Here is something to consider. What are you really looking to do?
If you are planning on playing local radio stations and maybe using Bluetooth to stream music off the phone, then you might be better with a more traditional unit.
If you really want to incorporate more media into the system...take full advantage of GPS...build a really quality sound system, etc.... then this might be the way to go.
But let me be clear...you are not going to find a quality Android head unit for $50....despite the ads on Ebay. These are a fraction the price of their mainstream counterparts with the same specs. In fact, the mainstream at a MUCH steeper cost does not boast many of the specs that these do.
But you need to go into this with eyes wide open.
I said before that these can do as much...and frankly more than their mainstream counterparts...but they are not as refined.
You are going to notice that the metal walls of the head unit is thinner gauges. But you are going to find that the screen has a higher resolution and a good one is usually IPS...vs the low-end screens in the mainstream.
You are going to find the OS to be more like a rooted OS and not like the OEM interface you might find in a mainstream unit.
But the OS will have fewer limitations, more ability to adapt, and will be much more able to be customized.
I can go on but you get the idea.
In the areas that I care about, these do more.
And having owned this one, when I do need another one day, I will be going with another ATOTO, Joying, XTRON, or maybe even a Pumpkin. (Based on the rep, I am leaning to Joying....they seem to be the kings right now)
But I will understand that it will likely cost $200-$400. And comparing that to a low-end head unit from the mainstream that can only play radio and stream Bluetooth is comparing apples to oranges. You need to be comparing that to a much higher-end mainstream that can boast similar specs.

(Researched this model and a few others, couldn't find any mention of dashcam/front camera.)

OK..I see the issue. I would look at the ATOTO webpage link on this head unit for specs.

I'd be surprised if none of these units can do this, but possibly the Android OS and other simultaneous apps running create too much potential RAM/CPU/etc. overhead to consistently and reliably record the critical video, so this type of feature is left off and a dedicated dashcam recorder is therefore necessary?
Had somewhat better experience w/ Ousmin A8 device: at least THAT thing Fit!
