It's the reference design card from AMD. You can get it at the AMD site for the same price right now. Makes sense to get it at MC though for easy returns or if you need a CPU as well.
Should check for any open box items at MC. Got 6950XT Red Devil for $616. Also saw a 4080 for $1049. Open item

Is buying from Microcenter better than just buying the parts from an online retailer? It looks like Microcenter generally has lower prices than Newegg, but can they compete with Newegg's first class and legendary customer service?

I *think* there's some sarcasm here, right? Cuz Newegg absolutely sucks donkey balls and I haven't purchased from them in years. Their MIR is almost a scam, and basically anything you buy from them is final-sale, even if it's defective.
There's ONE micro center in Boston, and it's a godsend. They have a lot of sales, bundles, and understanding return policy. My wallet isn't too happy about it, but that's another story.
For everyone arguing on here, on average a 6950 XT will be 20-25% faster than a 3080 10GB at 1440p resolution (see link for objective evidence). At 1440p a 3080 10GB will get around 80 FPS for the 1% lows, so I'd call that playable by any measure. This is an ok deal made a little sweeter if you actually want the free games they're offering here.
So basically, he can sell his 3080 for 500 and the 58003d for 300.
And get 3 free new games (all of which I personally believe are worth buying) and a 20 plus percent performance uplift for 150 dollars.
So basically for free or some arbitrary amount under 150 depending on what you think the games are worth. He can have 100 fps minimums and perfectly hit his 165hz for fps maximums on his new screen.
And he can hook up to a 4k TV in the bedroom for comfort and still get 60 fps 1% minimums. I also believe he said 1440p ultrawide, the ultrawide resolutions are harder to run. With a super ultra wide like a g9 being close to as difficult to run as 4k. Depending on what games he plays and exactly what ultra wide monitor he's talking about, he could easily see his 3080 dropping below 60fps in some games.
And also, depending on how old his 3080 is.... He's getting a new card, with a new warranty, that he doesn't have to worry about and that will also have a higher resale value. That thing could be a few years old at this point.
The 3080 is a great card and he doesn't need to upgrade at all but it's cutting it pretty close for a no compromise top shelf experience at 1440p ultrawide. The 4070ti is the new standard for high end 1440p, the 6950xt matches it and the 3080 does not.
And if hes like me and 100 percent will buy calisto, dead island 2, and company of heroes and already has a 5800X3d or better, then he's getting that upgrade and a new card for free.
there is no such thing as a 6900xt or 6950xt with only 2 fans, i dont even think anyone makes the 6800xt with only 2 fans.
The fck you talking about. I just said I have the AMD 6950XT that I purchased from the thread here and it has two fans. But having said that, I now need to doublecheck lol
There's a MicroCenter in most of the major metro areas around the US. I'd guess somewhere around 50% of the population live within an hour of one.
there is only 25 in the country, that doesnt put half the country close to one, there is only 1 in California and 1 in Colorado and those are the only 2 west of Texas lol
A thousand smackaroos on cpu and gpu alone.
You could probably build a whole rig
just as capable playing AAA games on 1440p.
You can with a 5600 and a 6800 or 6800xt. But the 5800X3D is the top of the line for AM4 that competes with current AM5. The 5800X3D is a great drop-in for AM4 owners. However, if I'm building from scratch, the 7600 non-x with a box cooler is a great CPU.
Skip to the 16 game averages for 1440p and 4k. Not sure what resolution you plan to play at.
But also watch the whole video and with each video there's a chart that shows each gpu and what fps they got and the resolution and setting. All the games you play could favor one gpu over the other.
For me, I play call of duty 90 percent of the time so I went with amd since they perform much better than nvidia at that game.

I'm always amazed at how many thumbs-up votes these get.

Would argue it's much better since higher VRAM. 4070ti really isn't a 4K card since it's VRAM is like 1/2.
