REI.com has Adidas Boston 11 for $47.83 and Adidas Adios 7 for $38.83 in both men's and women's sizes. These are both mid-to-high mile, firm, faster-paced shoes, not cushioned daily trainers. Great for 5K or 10K races and even up to marathons. Some other solid deals included as well, like the Ultraboost 22 deal posted earlier and the Adistar CS for $48

Because they're huge. Massive thick soles like platform shoes compared to the old 6 or 7s that were phenomenal. I do most of my running in steel toe boots at work, they're less like clogs than the 10s and up.

Does anyone know exactly why the Boston 11 ended up being a flop? This used to be a popular series.

The 10 was a big resign. Personally I love them and rock them daily. I wouldn't necessarily say these are fast paced shows like OP mentioned, the old Boston's definitely were. But these are a rock solid daily trainer. Definitely not ultra cushioned but definitely comfortable.

Adidas completely changed the Boston series with the 10 and made them more of a heavier, high stack shoe. Also, they chose to use a Lightstrike and Lightstrike Pro combo midsole instead a of a full Lightstrike Pro midsole which hasn't been popular due to how hard Lightstrike is.

Then, with the 11, they made it lighter by removing some of the overlays and heel counter padding, but that screwed with the sizing (probably go down 1/2 size for the 11) and they used the same midsole, so the previous complaints about Lightstrike still apply.

I have the 10 and the 11 and I personally like them both, Lightstrike feels good after a break-in period, but they will be a little hard underfoot in the beginning.

It is very stiff and takes like 60 miles to break in. Lightstrike pro doesn't have the softness and bounce of ZoomX or other competitors. The foam is just outdated for the modern market.

I just skimmed through reviews on the Boston 11 and came across a common complaint about the tongue. The tongue apparently has some sharp or rough edges that dig into and irritate the skin. Several people said the tongue is connected to the sole of the shoe to form a sock-bootie liner fit that is tight and unadjustable. What's your view on this aspect of the shoe?

Yeah the 10 imo, had an incredible upper. Best padding on the heel/ankle I've ever had. But the tongue on the 11 sucks. Hands down. Have to wear long socks, not even an option for no show. That being said, I prefer a upper with the sock fit

I can confirm this. After some time the tongue is very uncomfortable and painful

You are right. I have both Boston adizero 8 and 11. The Boston 8 have 4000+ miles and still rock. But the Boston 11 tongue has very limited adjustable design as you mentioned. For people with ralative taller foot top, stay away Boston 11.

How does this compare to the ultraboosts?

Ultraboosts are a lifestyle shoe and not a serious running shoe. Depending on your size the Ultras will be 4 or more ounces heavier. As Run Repeat says, they "may be one of the heaviest road shoes currently available." I like the Ultraboosts for walking but my attempts to run in them felt more like a jog.

Darn. The heel to toe drop is also higher than I prefer. This is a pass for me.

I can't speak about the adizero or Boston, but I read similar complaints about the ultra boosts, but also some people loved them. I think they fall into a more love it or hate it category. Personally I was a bit conflicted before I started running in them, but afterwards they have now become one of my favorite daily trainers for long/easy/ recovery runs. They are durable and comfortable. A few YouTube runners off the top of my head liked them like Seth James demoor and kofuzi, but your right others complained about the weight.
