Get 100 Starbucks "Stars" when you use Venmo in Starbucks app to reload/purchase $15 by Feb. 10.

Max 200,000 rewards available under this offer.

100 stars is enough to get two of the following: drip coffee, tea, bakery item. Each of those cost 50 stars. At 150 stars, you can get a "handcrafted drink", hot breakfast, or parfait.

I received an email detailing this offer, for which I have attached a screenshot.

Here is all the text from the image:

"Venmo is on Starbucks!
Celebrate with 100 Stars.
Add your account in the Starbucks app, and make coffee runs even more rewarding.
When you use Venmo to reload or make a minimum purchase of $15 by Feb. 10, you'll get 100 Stars to put toward coffee, food, drink plus-ups, and more.

Max 200,000 rewards available under this offer. Offer ends 2/10/2023. Terms apply.

Two ways to earn your Stars

Pay with Venmo
Open the Starbucks app, add Venmo as a payment method, then make a purchase of $15 or more. You can order ahead in the app, or scan the Venmo QR code in your Starbucks wallet to pay in person.

Earns 1 per $1
Reload your Starbucks Card
Transfer $15 from your Venmo account to your Starbucks balance. Tap Add funds, select Venmo, then confirm your dollar amount."

Small print includes the following:

"Valid 2/1/2023-2/10/2023 at participating stores. Use Venmo in the Starbucks app as your sole payment method on a purchase of $15+ pre-tax and 100 bonus Stars will be loaded to your Starbucks Rewards account within 24 hours. Offer valid for one-time use."

oh wow, they are devaluing the hell out of stars. thanks for posting this, going to burn as many of mine as possible before february 13th.
As I recall, last time they increased star-costs, they adjusted already earned star balances up. Still, imho if you only earn 2x stars on the dollar for new spend, the reward program will be about worthless.

Side note about rewards program change coming on Feb 13.

Beginning February 13, 2023, the following changes to Star redemption will take effect:

100 Stars may be redeemed for one (1) of the following items: hot brewed coffee or hot steeped tea, iced brewed coffee or iced brewed tea, OR a bakery item (such as a cake pop or cookie), OR a packaged snack (such as popcorn or potato chips) OR one (1) Cold Siren Logo Plastic To-Go Cup (24 oz only) or one (1) Siren Logo Plastic Hot Cup (16 oz only).
200 Stars may be redeemed for one (1) of the following items: any handcrafted beverage (such as a latte or Frappuccino® blended beverage) OR any hot breakfast item (such as a breakfast sandwich or oatmeal).
300 Stars may be redeemed for one (1) packaged salad or lunch sandwich OR one (1) packaged protein box, OR one (1) packaged coffee item (such as whole bean coffee). Packaged coffee availability may vary by store location.
That's pretty bad

How to get people to stop going to your stores

At their current pricing, they're less than $1 difference when compared to my local Roasters / third wave shops, would rather support them

Like someone posted earlier and accurately so, you could only add funds to your Starbucks App through a Venmo-issued Debit Card. Otherwise, Venmo won't let you use your own credit/debit card. This is a terrible business idea IMHO.

I signed up for Venmo and I was able to add my Visa credit card. It didn't force me to use a Venmo issued debit card. I used the Venmo website, didn't download the app. I'm sure the app is the same way. For the website, you go under payments and add your credit card.

We have to use Starbucks App to add funds and the Venmo App. I don't know how you're using the Starbucks App… Once I hit add funds on the SB App, it goes straight to the Venmo App and it won't allow me to use the Venmo website. If I use the SB website, it doesn't have the Venmo option, just PayPal.
Here's the Venmo reply, which is like what others mentioned before:

Hi MJ,

Kim from Venmo here!

Thank you for reaching out about adding money.

At this time, only users who have applied for and activated a Venmo Debit Card have the ability to add funds to their Venmo balance manually.

If you'd like more information about applying for a Venmo Debit Card, you can find it by visiting: https://venmo.com/about/debitcard/ from a browser. Keep in mind that you don't need to add money to your Venmo balance to pay friends or businesses in the app.

I hope this helps! If you need anything else, please don't hesitate to reach out! Have a wonderful day!🙂

Best,
Kim B. | Venmo Support

They just de-valued all the points -- 100 points is really not much at all and they really slapped regular customers in in the face by cutting the value of points in HALF (a free brewed coffee goes from 50 to 100 on Monday.... or a cold brew is now 200 -- so this 100 star Venmo bonus is exactly 1/2 of a free cold brew -- not worth the effort!).

F-Starbucks -- they made $3- BILLION in PROFIT in 2022!! (yes 3 BILLION NET PROFIT) and at the same time they are squeezing loyal customers Via their rewards program, on top of price increases -- I'm beyond insulted, using all my stars and going elsewhere!

In fact I reload $15 fund yesterday through Venmo (paid with a Visa credit card tight with my Venmo account,) already see the 100 stars showing in my Starbucks account and $15 shows as a valid credit card transaction. However, I had a bank debit card tight with Venmo (not Venmo debit), so not sure if that's why it works.

The bonus is my CC also has a % of cash back reward for online shopping , so I paid less than $15 plus bonus 100 stars for this reload.
