If you want to grow woody plants and want the best air pruning design on the market, look into the Air-Pot (made by Superoots). And while the knockoffs may or may not be quite as durable, many use exactly the same design.
With this method, you just need to add water to the pool... And if you use enough sphagnum peat moss, the water will just constantly wick upwards for the roots. Best method of having ever!!

I put a "water pool" inside the bag, using the round take out plastic we occasionally get from Mexican & Thai restaurants.
Since the bag allows transpiration the water constantly wicks and up into the soil and won't stagnate or rot, but the quart or so of water that holds when watering makes it much easier to maintain a moist soil.
And yes, for water loving plants, going out of town for a few days, particularly hot and dry days I use an external pool. But this can get problematic long term with algae, mosquitoes, etc.
For a long absence I built a temporary pool with 2x4 and plastic liner and came home to a pool full of tadpoles, which did keep the bugs and algae down a bit .

My non woven grow bags were pliable this winter at -5°F
I have many of this 7gal size, purchased when on sale for $1.50 each ( 10 for $15 ), as of this post this brand is $22 for 10

Not accurate, I'm from east coast and I've 2 20 gallons bags from same brand sitting outside for past 3 years with zero wear. I grow pepper in them every year.
