the REL is noticeably better when playing music. but when watching movies, it's hard to tell them apart. in the case of the 1508, it takes XRL cables and has a passthrough XRL, which is a huge plus. the lower models unfortunately do not.
in the appearance department, i think the REL is better too. SVS has the wood finish and the glossy piano finger print magnet finish. neither of which really works with most furniture. this REL sub is black but not glossy. it looks great
i like my 1508 so much that i just bought the 1205 sub from this sale for my summer house. i'm not even cross shopping at this point. i really like this brand.
With the current sale, the REL is punching well above its competitors at their respective deal price points (you're looking at the SVS-SB1000 at $400 and Monolith by Monoprice M10 at $450).
This would be a different story at normal price points, with more folks on the internet seemingly going for SVS or Monolith, but personally, if I didn't already have my sub setup and was in the market for a sub, I'd definitely go for this deal.

You can never have to many sub woofers. 😎
I have both brands, but bigger subwoofers. I have the svs sb 4000 (13.5inch) and rel HT 1508 (15 inch)..essentially the bigger brother to the ones listed here. If you prefer to control your sub with an app, go for the svs.... honestly, you set your sub once and forget about it.
When it comes to sound, the rel is super quick and punches 👊 >>> svs. Bit i bet there are svs fan boys here who will swear by the brand.
Rel is sealed and rsl is ported.
1003 Rel for bedroom. Rsl for larger spaces/primarily movies. 1205 for larger spaces and primarily music.
Depending on size of space, you may want 2 depending on how many listening positions you have

Oh my. My hearts says the hsu. particularly the vtf15h for $150-200 more or so. Its about 3 dbs louder than the vtf3 and at that level, thats a lot (but it may be overkill and not worth extra shipping costs depending on how loud you listen). They both go completely flat to around 16hz. And awesome for music. Absolute beasts. your neighbors will hate you. Best subs in their price range.
Get a second 1 later in the future if its for a wide seating area.

Hsu and rythmik > Rel
This rel deal is great though
You think REL isn't an internet focused brand? The whole premise with REL is using lightweight materials for efficiency. Thin stamped baskets, the same class D amplifiers everyone else is using. Less coil and a smaller magnet on the drivers to keep the weight down. They are not using better materials.
Sealed subs are great for music. Guitar amps have tiny magnets and cheap stamped baskets for quick response.
Did you know REL rates their lower frequency at -6dB. No one does that. Do you know why? Because no one would buy their subwoofers for HT if they posted that rating at -3dB.
They have a good product. They need to lose the NASCAR advertising. It's tacky, especially on the feet and top.
These are very fair prices for a great sealed musical subwoofer.
There isn't gold or diamonds in these boxes. Just a well measured, sealed box with a basic amp and lightweight driver.

It is also an extremely well built sub and can take some serious abuse. Will sound excellent with music too. Frankly it is a couple of classes above the REL.
later when you have the budget you can add one more
