You don't need a heat gun to shrink tubing in a pinch.

Use the barrel of the soldering iron.
Looks to be standard price if you look at the history. Actually $8 a week ago.
I knew I'd find my people somewhere😂

I've seen a lot of recommendations for the Pinecil V2 - it's the one I've settled.on getting before my next project. Still not an expert myself, but it sounds miles better than the experience I've had with this one.

You will be very happy with the pinecil. And that's from a guy who mostly used a $1000 soldering iron.

I never understood this mentality. Buying a cheap impossible to use unit as a beginner? Not only will you ruin stuff it will ruin you for good soldering and possibly cause a fire. Spend $80 on a digital 60+ watt Hakko.
You are outdated. I own a Hakko. And from SD I discovered I was outdated. This is the iron to get: Pinecil
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...UTF8&psc=1

For $40, you can get an iron that will power off USB C devices including batteries (needs 20V), and heats instantly. Beats my old Hakko that I dont use them anymore.

Here for the "buy a pinecil" club meeting. Especially if you can get it at the 26 dollar price point it's hit a few times it's an amazing deal given its capabilities. This is going to be an ok little baby iron and a bunch of trash accessories you won't want to use if you ever use good solder/shrink/etc.

What is the "use-case" difference between a solder pen and a solder gun?

Gun seems more convenient, but with working size as the limiting factor.

I have a couple of these cheapos from Amazon to keep in my tool bags. They work great for what they are, get hot, melt solder!

I hate to admit it, but I didn't know about the battery cads. I see that the company operating RadioShack as a zombie brand is selling overpriced battery card T-shirts [radioshack.com].
I'm sure they discontinued them at some point, but as a kid back in the 1980s, the free batteries were definitely worth a walk down to the store.

Gun seems more convenient, but with working size as the limiting factor.
Soldering guns are usually larger and higher wattage, used more for bigger electrical work rather than tiny electronics and especially PCBs.

Eh, not really a price deal - I got it for this price a while back and if you check camelcamelcamel, this is roughly the normal price.

That said, it's not a bad starter kit and it's kinda useful in that you can disassemble most of the soldering iron into separate components and toss it into a carry on and it's cheap enough that I don't feel bad if it gets spotted anyways and I have to toss it.

Good enough to get started for most household and electronics repair. Single temp, cheap easy pump and stripper. Odd they provide heat shrink tubing but no heat gun

Use a lighter or hairdryer

I actually checked camel price history.. I don't see anything suggesting under $18 since Sept 22.
