They had full output and looked brand new although I believe the ones I choose were about 4 years old. Craigslist is a good source if you just need a few. I wanted 10.
They work out to be .37/watt based on being 12 years old. For me it was well worth it.

I will be using a battery with solar panels and planning to keep it under the gazebo in a box to save it from water.
Question , is it safe to keep the battery outside? Specifically in Chicago weather? Anything I can do to protect the battery or any specific type of battery I should buy for this weather?
For demanding applications lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO 4) is the way to go but expensive. But also last thousands of charge cycles. Decisions, decisions.
Insulate your box but put in a very small vent to allow air to circulate. I mean like a vent the size of a nickel. Seal the rest. Use lithium grease on all the contacts to stop corrosion. Don't forget to top off the distilled water every year.

One thing - tape over the top vents or it will end up full of rainwater.
100% - this is a big part of why you don't see more solar in more areas like the midwest. I just had some big boy 455W panels shipped and even for just a single pallet it was $300 in freight. You need to buy in bulk for it to be worth it.
Incredulously, we actually have a solar company in my town in IN. Why -I don't know. They are selling the sun that can disappear here in winter for a week at a time.
Some guy I was watching on YouTub that had a zillion panels said he didn't use huge ones because if one was damaged somehow he'd lose a lot more watts that way. I guess he meant something doing impact damage to his roof.

I have bought various 100w solar panels and once in a blue moon, I might just get a smidgen over 100w but to to get 700w from 600w is not possible.
I would love to see you prove me wrong. Take a take or anything.
