Yes. I purchased several pairs of side zip (can't remember the model) Bates boots before a 3 week class. I beat them up pretty bad through different types of weather conditions. They held up well and didn't break. Kept them for several years afterword for intermittent use. I'd have no problem buying another set from Bates.

Bates boots are solid. They were a common brand purchased by military (when we were wearing BDUs with black boots prior to the transition to ACUs w/ tan boots) and various law enforcement personnel.

Not the only one by any means, but they generally perform as intended and are comfortable enough for all day and field wear.

I am a firefighter/paramedic and I worked many shifts in different types of boots. These were by FAR the most comfortable boots I had. Both the zip up and the slip on. They aren't quite as durable as the thorogoods, etc. but I'll gladly pay to replace comfortable boots a few times vs having longer lasting uncomfortable ones. I would definitely recommend.

I've had 2 pairs of bates. They were both very comfortable. One pair lasted a few weeks before it got a tear in the heel. The other one lasted only 6 months whereas magnums and thorogoods lasted me a year and a half. Redbacks lasted me 6.5 years.

From personal experience Bates are a little better then the brand magnum. But are pretty low on my list of brands that are durable. Usually if I found a deal like this, I would just buy two pairs and rotate them daily which would make them last longer. If you require boots like this and are on a foot beat you're going to replace them in about 6 months. Nicer brands usually last a bit longer, but you're going to replace those as well (just not as frequent).

Have you tried the Thorogood softstreet Wellington? You could run a 5k in them haha. I'm grabbing the Bates slip ons for my dress uniform

Had a pair of Bates about 10 years ago and they were just ok, but not good on trails/backpacking. They are not waterproof. They got regulated to yard work boots. For hiking it's hard to beat Keen Targhee's, Merrill Moab's, Danner 600's, and for the granite, Alico Tahoe or Summit. A bit hard to find the Alico boots now since Sierra stopped importing them from Italy. They are the real deal.
