The last time I bought one of these refurbs, everything looked new and worked well for about 4 months. After that, the screen wouldn't respond to any touches. You could turn it on and off, but after trying everything suggested by support it ended up being more of a paperweight.

I was probably just unlucky

I don't think this is an awful comment. I've had mixed results with refurbished kindles. And I'm after the Amber reading light. Plus the brand new ones are so much faster. And if I'm getting a new Kindle I don't mind giving up my current one. Paying twice the price for one that is brand new, guaranteed to work, the latest technology and still only $80 sounds like a good deal to me. I am going to do it. Thanks for your post.

$40 for a used 5 year old tablet is not a deal. Woot should be selling this for $15! With a trade-in, you can get the brand new Paperwhite for $80 which comes with the amber reading light.

I couldn't find details, what is the refurbishment process on these? New case, new battery? Just see if it turns on and hope for the best?

I had various experience with buying refurbished paperwhite. First time the device arrived with no black light. Second time the device came with same scratches on the screen. Third time the device is perfect and I love it. I am using that everyday. So, it is a matter of luck.

I got one of these last time from Woot. First one had a large, bright pixel. Guessing it was an Amazon return for the screen defect. So much for quality control.

They did exchange it for another one which looked brand new. I am happy with this model and features

I bought a used 11th gen for $70 a couple weeks ago. Worth keeping it or return it and get this?
