Hey All,

Scored a deal today. I dont really need this since I have a service which comes to mow my lawn, but I could not pass up on it either. So we shall see if I get any use out of it, if not, I am sure I can flip it for a profit.

As the title states, its a Ryobi 48V Brushless 54 in. 115 Ah Battery Electric Riding Zero Turn Mower for $499 (plus applicable taxes). I opted for the extended warranty for an additional $75.

There were 2 left at the HD I went to. Both had minor rust on it, but may be cleanable, plus the seat is a bit faded (maybe dirty), but again, for that price, I couldn't resist.
Good Deal?

Just terrible reviews honestly.. Read the newest ones. The batteries don't last but a season(when the warranty runs out) The extended warranty doesn't seem to mention whether it's covered or not and they are expensive to replace. I saw one at ours today but it looks like it had sat for a least a year and the plastic was whitening. Could be cosmetic but if they left the battery dead that whole time then would probably need a replacement pretty quickly but they only give a single-year warranty on the batteries.

Possibly, but not 100% sure. There were 2 types, one for 3999 MSRP and one for 5499 MSRP, both listed at 499, so I opted for the more expensive one which happens to be wider, which I hope will help with moweing the yard faster.

Saw that as well, but for ~600 with extended warranty and tax, out the door, I would take my chance. And, if extended warranty would not help with any issues within the 3 year period, American Express would hopefully step in and assist, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it lol

Yeah if I didn't have a gas one I might of bit just to try it since it was only 499 but the only one they had was the 42". I told my dad about it(guy with the trailer) and he was laughing saying he doubted it was even worth that given once the battery goes it's a brick. Wish there was a way to use the 40v batteries or something that ryobi sells(the new 80v does that for some reason). It seemed pretty nifty for the price just nowhere to put it + guess the risk. If you could get the extended to basically give your money back if the battery dies then guess it would be worth it in a way since then you get a year of "free" mowing lol..

Just beware that most extended warranties exclude batteries. Read the T&Cs to be sure.

This is an amazing deal if you can get it. The batteries aren't proprietary and you can swap the lead acid in them for LiFePo which will last even longer than LiPo. I've had the 54 inch for 3 years on a half acre yard and still going strong on the lead acid. I will swap to LiFePo when these die and it will have more power and last many years. The frame will give out before the batteries do. All for a fraction of what a new LiPo mower is going for.

There are facebook groups dedicated to supporting these mowers and transition to LiFePo. It's fairly easy with everything from Amazon. Most of the reviewers on homedepot write negative reviews because of the batteries but don't know you can juice this thing with LiFePo. The voltage drop on LiFePo batteries is much less than lead acid so a 100ah battery that lasts 3 hours will last 4 or more hours with LiFePo.

That's what a lot of people think. The batteries in these are standard and you can swap them for LiFePo which is HUGE. They are easily accessible from the rear of the mower and made to be replaced at the end of their life. They look like car batteries. LiFePo is the same battery chemistry Tesla is using in some of there newest cars. If you do the swap you will get performace gains and the batteries will last for many more years. The batteries are available on Amazon.
