I have bought this last time for $10. It is very bad and the stand doesn't hold the laptop. I had no issues with other existing stands except this. Save ur money!
I have this. No matter how tight you make it, any light touch to the lap top causes it to slip down.
Frustrating waste of $.

Yes. This should be able to support a 14" laptop nicely. The 17" quote is for the weight and general size limitation of the biggest device it can hold. I have a very similar one and it holds all devices I have no matter of size nicely. As a side not from my experience these are meant to be kept in place not necessarily portable.

I think I got the same one for 9$, and yeah it's definitely worse quality than others, but it's held up my 15" 5lb gaming laptop ok

Sounds like others in the thread have had trouble, but I've had this sitting on my desk holding up a 15.6" laptop for about six months now and it hasn't slid a millimeter as far as I can tell. Positioned it where I wanted and it's still the same place now. For ten or eleven bucks, whatever I paid for it, it's done the job exceedingly well.

Good price bad product. It won't hold the laptop in place while others I have does the job without any problem. Will not recommend at all

I bought one a few weeks ago when it was previous on sale, and it is very solid if you tighten down the 4 nuts properly. Use a real wrench to adjust things, not the dinky stamped out flat tool that is provided in the packaging. You're not going to get sufficient torque that way.

Agreed. You have to pull off 4 plastic covers and get a socket wrench to tighten, only for it to loosen again. Would not buy.

I think you might be confusing this one with another brand. The bolts are exposed on this one, just like in the pictures. I'm looking at it right now on my desk, and there's no need to take off any cover, they're right in front of you.
