I spend $50 in a week at Amazon so this is basically a free $5. I miss the early days of Amazon though. The promos were much better.

Doesn't Prime Credit card exclude Gift card purchases from their 5% discount on Amazon?

Yes. If you have a Prime CC this really isn't a good deal. The cards 5% back doesn't work on gift cards and you won't earn by using GCs either.
Also the above users math is a little off. 5% of $50 is $2.50
Bad credit

Amazon is a 5% category on Freedom/Discover cards at least one quarter per year. Chase Freedom earns Ultimate rewards which are worth more than 1c. You can also buy Amazon gift cards at grocery stores when they are 5x and also earn gas rewards. I don't see a need for Amazon card if you have other generic 5x cards.

The Prime credit card only gives you 5% cash back. The Freedom gives you 5 POINTS per dollar, which is not the same thing. Points can be redeemed for several cents apiece with transfer partners or with the 25% or 50% increase in the Sapphire portal.
