I work in the industry--this price is lower than dealer wholesale. Specialized is ridiculously overstocked right now and is in the process of an inventory dump. As soon as they stabilize what they have on hand these sales will disappear.
Watch for barely used bikes, people still need to empty their garage of Covid bikes that were used twice!

I'm looking to get a mountain bike for SoCal trails, and some road riding in downtown LA.

I'm new to bikes but have always wanted one, and now I'm in a position to buy one this year.

I'd like to buy once and cry once on a really nice bike that will last me for a long time and still serve my future needs as I get more into mountain biking.

Can any of you bikes experts please recommend something in the $1k-$1.5 range?

Maybe expensive models that I can keep an eye on this year for sales
Get some decent cheap junk cause it'll end up stolen in LA anyway

My 2 local dealers are going to have mega sales on complete bikes after Easter which kicks off our mt bike season (although we ride year around) here in N Cal.
What Local Shops do you recommend buying from in NorCal? (Sacramento Valley & SF Bay Area)

cause they're all overpriced. It's an overpriced brand
Any brand that spends the R&D and advertising costs like Trek and Specialized do have basically always been overpriced. The difference from 2000 to 2023 is that there are tons of effectively white label players who spend little to nothing on R&D, pay to license existing designs, and drop ship them from the same same Taiwanese factories the biggies make bikes in. And, at the end of the day, for many riders, the difference in performance is negligible to nothing. Many bikes are basically just stencil bikes at this point, and I laugh heartily at folks who are both materialistic and don't know like folks riding a carbon Colnago built in the same factory a white label brand like Blue is.

Ride what you like and what works for you! Want to rep Specalized? Cool. Want to ride some Chinese carbon no-sticker bike? Cool.

at this point you can do a design in solidworks, and run it with a physics simulation through an ai sandbox..ai has gotten ridiculous.

you can get specialized stickers too lol

If you are under the impression that the same factory equates to the same quality, you will often be mistaken.

Of course not - just saying more parity than before.

Thanks for the post! Does anyone know what the alloy one weighs? It's less and I'm not a huge fan of carbon.. Are these the same except alloy/carbon materials? I see it's on pretty good sale as well...

Why not carbon? Been riding carbon for over 10 years and never had an issue

It's a $600 shock alone. This is a great deal, full builds of these can get close to $10k. Parts dependent, obviously, but this is as high end as they come.

Don't ride a $1k+ bike in any downtown metro area. You can't lock it up anywhere because it will have it stolen before you get back to it. Cordless angle grinders can slice thru any bike lock in 30 seconds or less.

not any bike lock..some higher end locks with thicker steel chew through angle grinders
