Has a crappy warranty but generally has good performance.
I'm holding out for a cheap 4TB drive that doesn't turn to poo when you fill them up; Gen 3 or Gen 4, doesn't matter. Once these get a bit cheaper, it will make sense to use them for fast online NAS storage. Even though I'd do a lot more reading than writing, I just can't stomach the thought of write speeds dropping to sub-ten-megabytes/sec, even once.
I'm seeing 2GB SATA (2.5" form factor) SSD's for $80 now - A 4-gig SATA 2.5" for $160 would be great. 2GB isn't quite enough to waste a SATA port on, imo. My only hesitation with SATA is that I want to upgrade network next, and it would be a shame to be kneecapped by SATA bandwidth limitations on my network. That said, I haven't seen a single deal on a 2.5 / 5 / 10G switch in as long as I've been on SD.
