I recall a deal around the same time I think for a pack for $100 at Best Buy with a $50 GC. I bought two packs

I'm waiting for Philips to release a damn hue sync that is hdmi 2.1 for all the latest specs
I don't have a time machine, but almost two years ago exactly I bought this set from Costco for $100 after their discount. Was marked as $150 normal price then. Now 2 years later, for the same product, it is saying these are $170 normal price and $130 after the discount. meh
No (imo) but they're much cheaper. Here's a video that shows both on screen at the same time.

I buy RGBW, (or WW, CW etc) strips from Ali Express. A good Home Life controller that pairs with Alexa or Google for about $8 and some source of power that works with the LED strip and voila. Cheap enough that I've installed them where ever needed and all works flawlessly with my Google Home account. Little bit of research can save a ton on LED lighting.

If going this route, why not just buy Govee?

Seems like it would be the same price or maybe even more once you get everything?

Serious question,… not just trolling… I have lots of projects that I use LED lights with and haven't gone this route just because it seems overly complicated. But perhaps I'm missing something.

For non Costco members these have been 2 for $99 on Amazon for the last month or two. Slightly worse deal but still comparable if you don't have have Costco access.

I'll invest in Hue once they get rid of that absurdly priced sync box. I'm aware of the PC app , but that doesnt help with TV

PC app is mostly useless if you watch anything DRM protected it can't sync to that fyi.

I have seen many things in the past 2 years jump at Costco. I am not sure if it was Covid or inflation but prices went up. That is everywhere.

If $$ is the only thing that is important, yes Govee wins out. Hue is a bit cleaner and the interface is unmatched but they are expensive.

Is it worth the price? probably not but it is damn easy if you are in the ecosystem. It's kinda like sonos. worth it? debatable but damn easy to setup and use.

I guess I'm the only one that doesn't get it? Some colorful lights behind your TV. Requires a hub that this expensive kit doesn't come with? I have over 70 smart devices in my house and never needed a hub for anything.

Buy Govee just as impressive and half the cost or even less. Use google to search so you don't use a ref link from here

I had the Govee TV Lights and finally upgraded to the Hue Sync Box and gradient light strip and Playbars. Needless to say, the Govee is absolute trash in comparison IMO. You get what you pay for….

It's almost as if people don't want to spend $50 on a light bulb anymore.

Sorry, I guess I was wondering about the part it together option using Home Life (which I'm not familiar with) and some led controllers and and strips. I'm familiar with Hue vs Govee.

I guess to clarify further, I'm really curious Home Life and a random RGBW controller functionality. I didn't really find much googling.

The most sucky thing about hue sync box is that it can't do 4k 120hz

Not trying to threadcrap here, but gotta say, I got two sets of these last year and ultimately they went back. Really cheap build quality and one strip in both sets had a high frequency buzz you hear across the room. A firmware update promising to fix the buzz didn't work. Everything was just really disappointing considering the cost of these units, EVEN on sale.

I've had other Hue products and, although they were pricey, they still felt more premium.
