Read #2 again. Sounds like this message was sent to existing customers to switch to the new s/w, so it's more than likely that old hardware will run with new software.
Seems extremely likely or they'd alienate anyone without a smartphone (such as elderly people). It also has it's own display.

Seems likely but based upon the verbiage, it's still somewhat questionable. They should've been more specific (unless the info. quoted is incomplete). A phone call should clarify it but is the app really that important to begin with?
I just bought their blood pressure cuff. If this is anything like the cuff, the app is optional. You have to manually turn it to "sync mode" to connect to the app. They market this as a privacy feature. That you have to go out of your way to upload to the app. But it's just a button on the device and a button in the app. Nothing crazy
