Hard to see how allbirds survives. Company is now worth under $200 million but bleeding cash fast, and it's becoming evident that the demand for their shoes is not there, so a buyout seems unlikely.

Mind writing a small reason why? Did they try and expand too fast? I just only started hearing about the company via SD posts, so yeah that's not a good thing. Were they popular in smaller communities? Somebody mentioned tech bros?

I always had my eye on AllBirds as a gift to my wife after hearing my female coworkers rave about them. Some of them may be the rich gentrifier types who didn't mind spending money on things. But some of them are more of the down to earth types too. I figure some of it might just be a girl thing where you'd see them gather in group talking about shoes and loaning each other shoes.

The one thing that kept me from buying them is that they used to be like $100 for a pair of shoes. And the reviews were that even they were really comfy they didn't last long. Hence I added in the detail about how some people I know that liked it are the rich type with disposable income. (no offense to anyone) I think the description of the comfort is that it was like wearing wool socks.

The one thing is that I think people were worried about changes to the company once they went public, which is an issue with a lot of companies. So that might've been one of the reasons that lead to their downfall.

I initially clicked on the thread to see if these shoes at REI are the same as the ones that were sold on their website. I might actually get around to buying my wife a pair if I can get it for about $50 from REI and it's the same shoes that they're known for on their website.

They made wool sneakers, far from being "tech company" no matter how they claim it

This article is pretty good if you can get behind the paywall:
https://www.wsj.com/articles/allb...1671858003

As the title of that article says, the tech bros were a big demographic for them.

Athletic footwear is just so competitive. Think about how long Nike & Adidas have been dominant.

The shoes don't have that much support. I tried to like them but always ended up leaving the store empty handed.

I bought into the Allbirds hype and got a pair of these.
They're pretty comfortable - light, cushiony.
But they lose traction real fast and once the outside starts falling apart they look terrible.
Ended up donating them.
