I had an IONVAC about a year ago. It was just a bumper-bot and it suited my needs. I'd set it out to clean the house when I left for a walk, and I'd come back to a fairly clean floor. I'd guess it missed 10-20% of the floor, mostly the corners and edges, but 80% coverage everyday is better than me sweeping every couple of days. Most of what I wanted out of it was some sort of pet fur control, and it did that pretty decently, especially for the $40 I dropped on it.

Then one day it died. It was stuck under a desk because of a chair. I pulled it out (instead of lifting it) which spun the wheels and I guess that backfed current into the wheel controller. It would still turn on, respond to the remote and the Android app, but it would not move.
Reviews are not impressive. I'll save myself a headache and pass. Thanks for the post.
Does anyone know what mapping technologies this uses? There is no bump for lidar and no camera.

Gyroscope, similar to Enfy or most low end vacuum type mapping sensor.

Most likely just IR for very basic proximity detection. IR lights can be bounced off objects and very rudimentary surface avoidance can be used, but I wouldn't expect it can map using IR with any sort of detail. It may be able to detect a wall, but probably will not be able to do detect smaller table legs, etc. so will bumping into smaller objects. THis also means you prob can't setup an no-go zones.

As with virtually all robo vacs, they use IR sensors on the vac and IR leds on the base to guide it into the dock for the last foot or so (yes, even the $1k iRobot models use IR for the docking feature).

I have a couple iHome Novas, as well as a Ecovacs T8+, both of which have lidar and are quite honestly the only way to go. I previously used an old Ecovacs N79W that doesn't have any sensors beyond a bumper, that now sits collecting dust in the closet.

Considering this after my iHome Nova died. Any experience with longevity? Also - if anyone wants another iHome docking station - hit me up.

I just bought me a shark bumper bot a month ago. It bounces off all the cats because they're too fat to move. And I have to empty it twice while running because the floor is so dirty. I'd be curious if there is one that empties itself into a larger waste Repository, and does a slight ly better job cleaning.
But mine was refurbished and under $100. I'm just wondering what doubling the price gets me

I like the idea of a self cleaning vac, but my Eufy's brushes need to be manually de-haired after each use, so I don't see how much this will help.

The shark self emptying models do a good job dehairing(?) the brush. We have 2 dogs and 3ft long hair. Only need to clean off the brushes once every couple of months

There are a few robot vacuums that have a hair-cutting mechanism, but they cost a lot more. But for households without pets, this might be less of a problem.

Have a similar model without an automatic collection bin and would recommend getting a unit with Lidar. This gets stuck under furniture on several occasions.

I have this. I'm happy with it. The first thing you should do is use a regular vacuum to do a deeper clean. These are maintenance bots and they do a fair job. Many people with 3 dogs want this to replace their messes from getting too far behind on cleaning. These choke trying to clean and then owners aren't happy. Set it for 2-3 days cleaning per week. Keep strings and weird stuff that would hang up the bot, off of the floor and it's good.

Spend the $ on the Wyze vac. It's LiDAR and I've been running it daily for almost two years without issue.
