First time I have ever seen Discworld books on special at Audible.
Shepherds Crown and Raising Steam. Both are excellent.

Where do you recommend starting in the Discworld series? I haven't read any, but have been wanting to. Is it best to start with The Color of Magic?

They are F*ing amazing books. Though I did read them, I didn't listen to them.Death is my favorite / best character in the series.
Here is the reading order guide, as there are a lot of them.

I'm on book 3 of He Who Fights with Monsters and 5 and 6 are on this sale. Good deal for me!

I really enjoy the series so far. If you played MMOs in the past or just a gamer in general you'll probably love it as well.

Nope, I would advise against starting at the beginning because it took a few books for him to really find the tone. The first couple are a lot closer to traditional fantasy and don't have the humor and satire that the series is really known for. If I had started with Color of Magic I would wonder what the big deal was and probably wouldn't read any more.

Pratchett was very good at making them all standalone, so you might miss some references and jokes but for the most part you can jump in anywhere and not be lost, although there are a few series within the series that follow specific characters are best read more or less in order. Guards, Guards is usually a popular one to start with. I haven't read the books in this sale yet, but they are both the final entries in their series. You might be able to start with Raising Steam - it's the third Moist Von Lipwig book, but those tend to be more satires about society and concepts than characters. The Tiffany Aching books are probably the most character-based and the Shepherd's Crown is the last Discworld book so I would bet it's not a good place to start.

Audible is not a good company, as are most monopolies, and after watching this video I've moved away from them even if they have the better pricing.

People think Audible is too expensive now and people are constantly signing up for free books and canceling (as is their right).

I'm not sure what the solution is here but I doubt its libraries where all the books are free.

I used to buy many Audible books on sale but seems not many good new titles come up nowadays. I listen to about 2 books a week on average and like Audible, but I also subscribe to Scribd, which offers about 1/2 to 2/3 of what's on Audible. It's "unlimited" in that you can read or listen to all the books in its catalog at first, but titles start dropping off as "unavailable" until the following month after you've read two or so books. CS is poor and interface is not so good, but it's been worth the $12/mo given all the books I go through.

I appreciate the advice on where to start. Typically, I like to begin with book 1, but I've heard others also say not to with Discworld. I am a gamer and I enjoy Fantasy books such as those by Brandon Sanderson and the Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb. But occasionally I don't get into popular series that other readers like, such as The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan, and Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind. Granted, I didn't get far enough in those to truly write them off. Just haven't been motivated to revisit anytime soon.

You sound a lot like me, and I LOVE the Discworld novels. I'll throw out my two cents as well: Start with the Death series (specifically, Mort). That's what I did, and I've been hooked ever since. I just finished the Watch novels (which starts with Guards! Guards!) and while they are also amazing, the quality ebbs and flows a lot more than the five Death novels, which I consider all very high quality. I'm excited to start a new line of novels soon! Just can't decide between Witches and Rincewind...
