I want to upgrade my SSD in my HP Pavilion laptop, model HP 15-EH0090WM, but I have no idea how to tell which generation of NVMe it will support, or what's currently in it without taking it apart. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Keep in mind these are qlc drives. So compare to the intel 670p.
Imho, at the a similar price I'd go for tlc drive like the mp34.
Qlc should be about 75% the cost of a tlc drive since it has 75% the flash cells.

good reply. i generally just search the web or ask an AI bot; lately it has been just as easy to crack open the case to double check my hunches et al.

a Gen 4 drive could work just as well correct? it may cost more, but it can be passed on to another laptop in the future i spose.

Correct a gen 4 is backward compatible. Basically, buying a Gen 4 gives you somewhat a future proofing purchase

Nope. The speed is fine, but it has to be Gen4. Sony recommends a speed of 5,500mb/s, but any Gen4 will work. No game uses the full bandwidth of SSDs. I have a 3,600mb/s one in mine (though the PS5 only reads it as 3,400) and it loads and runs everything as fast as the stock one. Mine is the 1TB WD Black SN750 SE. Digital Foundry even tested a 3,200 one, and it was the same result. I say all that just so you know you don't have to shell out extra money for something faster. Even if you have one with a speed of 7,000, it will only load games about 1 second faster than even the slowest one, if at all, because games aren't programmed to take advantage of that extra speed.

Thank you so much, that was all the information that I needed, I really appreciate your help and guidance!

I don't have a M.2 slot on my desktop. I do have a PCIe adapter card that takes a NVME ssd. Would I get better performance with a SATA SSD drive or with a PCIe adapter card with a NVME drive installed to it.
