Lowe's has the Jorgensen 10-inch handscrew clamps on sale for $9.98. Free pickup at available stores or free shipping on orders over $45. These clamps are great for securely holding small parts or acting like a mini vise when paired with traditional F-style clamps.

Wood is softer. A lot of times with steel you might need a wood block as a cushion.

Not a carpenter though.
they have a deeper throat typically (depending on the size) and can not only clamp a small area on the tips of the jaws, but can be used to clamp a larger area by closing the jaws parallel. I also use them in pairs as a makeshift table clamp/vice to, among other things, hold flat panels upright on a bench for edgebanding, routing, etc.

I've wanted some of these for a long time. In for two.

I still want to make some of my own though using the kits from TayTools.

What's this wood clamp useful for? Isn't steel one better?

And can be useful to clamp things that are not parallel too

This is the regular price for Harbor Freight's equivalent. They also have a 12" for $12. And if you wait for one of their regular sales or coupons, well...

These are good for when the jaws of a metal clamp might mar the surface of what you're clamping.

Actually these are much different than f style or pipe clamps. You wouldn't use these for lamenations (although it can be done) but more for holding odd shaped work pieces. It is also flat so it can be clamped to a table and used as a vise or used as a small parts holder for the drill press, router table or bandsaw. Because they are wood they be modified with a notch in the center to hold circular objects.

Sometimes. But I tightened one of my steel claps and the plastic tightening mechanism broke. That's unlikely to happen with these.

These have a lot of uses, though the biggest use for me as a carpenter is cabinet installs to keep the face frames tight to each other for setting cabinets and the pre-drilling and installation of the screws to hold them together. The wide non marring clamping area of these clamps are great for that.
