Product Name: | Jorgensen 10-in Handscrew Clamp |
Product Description: | Jorgensen adjustable hand screws hold tightly over broad areas, providing greater reach and a wider distribution of pressure than other clamps. The angle between the jaws can be adjusted to fit the work. The jaws hold odd shapes easily, are capable of overlapping and provide protection against marring of finished surfaces. The versatility of Jorgensen hand screws also allows for specific, concentrated clamping pressure where required. Jorgensen hand screws are fast and easy to apply and remove. Jaws are seasoned hard maple, selected straight grain; properly oiled and individually inspected, finished and tested. Spindles and nuts are cold-drawn steel with special double-lead threads; machined for quick adjustment, strength and durability. Handles are seasoned hardwood; designed for comfort and assembled with heavy-duty steel ferrules. Jorgensen 10-in Handscrew Clamp |

I still want to make some of my own though using the kits from TayTools.
Wood is softer. A lot of times with steel you might need a wood block as a cushion.

And can be useful to clamp things that are not parallel too

These are good for when the jaws of a metal clamp might mar the surface of what you're clamping.
