Upgrading after the pixel 5, you'd be out of luck for the unlimited backup feature. I'm on a 7 now (from a 5) and miss my 5. I ended up buying a OG pixel with a bad battery that stays plugged in as a photo transfer server to still get the unlimited backup feature.

Could be easily accomplished with syncthing. Use syncthing to set up your current phone to sync one way to the pixel 5 which is presumably set up on your home wifi. Syncthing will send all the photos/videos you take to the pixel 5. Pixel 5 will upload them all. Occasionally delete synced photos/videos on the pixel 5 when its storage gets full. I'd also recommend using a smart plug to charge the pixel 5 intermittently so the battery doesn't balloon up being on a full charge all the time (though this might just be me being overly cautious).

I bought a very good condition OG pixel at $70 a couple of years ago specifically for this purpose. Battery is still decent. Still haven't finished backing up all my photos and videos...lol...need to find a better way to automate the process...

Question: I smashed my Google Pixel 6A and I don't want to fight to read through the spider webs of cracks anymore. I bought a used Galaxy S20 but we're not getting along so well. (Low battery life, voice to text is choppier).

Will the Google Pixel 5 feel like a dinosaur compared to these phones? How is battery life? Thanks.

Why not trade in the S20 that you don't like for Pixel 7.

There is a Pixel 7 tradein deal currently going on in the Google store for $450 minus tradein of $275 for s20 = $175 plus taxes.

I got a Pixel 7 in an earlier deal and it's a great phone. Feels more snappy than my S22 ultra. Good battery life. Also between face unlock and fingerprint unlock I have not had unlock related issues which some folks seems to be vocal about.

Same - and only reason I'm getting a new phone while my Huawei is working perfectly after 3.5 years. Made me consider iPhones for the first time given their long support but with a discount + this trade in I'm happy to go with Pixel for that tasty pure Android experience
