I've got one of these and it's a nice little knife. It's lightweight because of the aluminum, has a pretty good manual flipper action, nice fit and finish, and while 7CR17 is nothing to write home about, but it holds an edge fairly well and gets razor sharp. The $47 MSRP makes me want to laugh, but it's worth $16. I think I paid $9.99 for mine on a really good sale but that was at least five or six years ago.

Friends don't let friends buy gas station knives.
Here's a knife for $3 more with D2 steel, flipper tab, micarta handle, and a deep carry clip. All things this Gerber doesn't have.

The Gerber will resist rust much better than cheap tool steel.

Are All Gerber Knives Made in America?
As noted earlier, Gerber is an America-based company, operating under Finnish patrons who acquired it in 1986. However, in recent years, the company has outsourced a huge chunk of its manufacturing to other countries, mainly China. This outsourcing has become the norm in American corporations owing to the economic problems that prevail due to the mismanagement of the country's assets.

China, which has appeared as a major economic titan, has claimed several outsourcing projects, including Gerber. Around 21.8% of the products showcased by the company are being manufactured in the USA. While most of the others are being produced in China. The hope persists with this fraction that Gerber will not shut down its operations in America.

I have enjoyed this one a lot. I have bought it numerous times because it's my go-to pocket knife. The trick is it's so thin. If you're going to hook it on your pocket; so many other great knives are much thicker. It's not much to look at but for something better than a utility knife I find it a useful bargain. I've donated at least a couple to TSA and I don't have to cry at this price.

Not sure what the big phobia about rust is here, as revealed in your downvotes. If I had a pocketknife that patina'd like my 1095 Old Hickory knives, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it - but I would want to wipe it down on sweaty days. And sharpening would spark joy.

IMO the comparison is not about $3 or rust (surely there is a $19.99 Amazon knife in "440C", maybe maybe not 9Cr18MoV) - the comment about thickness and pocketability is spot on, since I have grown to dislike big heavy folders. I could even make peace with the serrations if I was in the market.

Here's my $.02. This was one of my first edc knives when I was younger. Now I own knives from $50-$500 and change them often depending on attire and environment. For the price, if you aren't a "knife guy" this IMHO is the best bang for the buck for a cheap edc knife you can buy. Better than OKC Rat or Rat2 and most off the shelf knives for double the cost. Now, once you hit say $75-$100 range you will know a big difference and at $150+ it's night and day, but for the average Joe who loses knives, pries stuff open, and doesn't live with a knife, this is the be set deal out there. I carried these for years back in the day and loved them. Profile is good and if you lose one you're out less than $20. Just my thoughts.
