I bought this fan for a rental, and would never buy again. It's very poor quality, Go for something better.

been running the oil-rubbed bronze version of this in a townhome guest room for a while now, no issues. straightforward assembly (assuming you have the proper fan mount, which we did not since we were replacing a light fixture; fortunately i have attic access). pull chains are nice and long (maybe a little too long) and they each have little plastic pendants (that do feel very cheap) with molded fan/lightbulb graphics to help distinguish between which is which. blades did need substantial wiping off of tiny styrofoam dust/pieces, but that's par for the course. nothing was scratched, everything was neatly packed in the box and well-protected.

definitely not a fancy fan, but, reasonably quiet at the highest speed, barely audible on the middle speed, and silent on the slowest. only minor niggle (mentioned by tri1914) is that the single light means it's basically directional, even with the frosted glass. i skipped the stock bulb entirely and put in a compact 100w replacement led bulb (i think the socket is only rated for something lame like 40w), which helps, but the room has another table lamp, etc. for alternative lighting. it does do a quick dim/fade-out when turning off.

the switch to reverse direction is accessible without removing the light kit. if a super-clean look is what you want, this does not have a shield/ring thing to cover screws at the top, but they're discrete enough and colored the same as the finish.

This fan was $20 regular price a couple years ago. I bought it and returned it because it runs very noisy. I definitely wouldn't pay $50 for it.

Nearly 10K reviews on HD with a 4 out of 5 rating - what's up with all the negative SD comments?

Maybe because it's a couple bucks off an already cheap fan that is built like crap and noisy.
