Saw the older i5-1135G7 posted here for 279, but for $10 more, this one has the newer i5-1235U processor but half the memory.

Listed for $299, but WOWFRESH promo code worked for extra $10 off

I did some more research on both of the recently featured Gateway laptops (i5-1135g7 vs i5-1235U). The question marks I added to some of the points means that I'm a little bit iffy on that point:

---2022 Gateway---
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Cor...955.0.html
Pros
Slightly better newer gen CPU
-Marginal Performance Boost
-Better Battery Life?
2MP Camera?
Camera Privacy Shutter
Touch Screen
Fingerprint Scanner off the Trackpad
USB-C Charging w/ Power Delivery Standard?
-Can't find proof except for the statement on notebookcheck's article
Stronger Chassis?
Better Feeling Keyboard?

Cons
8GB Ram
-Looks like it might throttle performance

---2021 Gateway---
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Wal...404.0.html
Pros
16GB Ram

Cons
Apparently glue comes off screen over time?
-(Major deal breaker for me if the glue can come off. Not sure if this is the same for the other version.)
Battery Bulging Problems?
Older Gen CPU
Charges through USB-C, but doesn't support USB PD.
-I'm still a noob with the charging stuff, but I think this may lead to overcharging

Notes
I tried out the fingerprint scanner and it doesn't have any issues for me...

---Similarities---
Around the same IPS panel colors
Both have an expandable m.2 SATA memory compartment and only accept SATA m.2 SSDs
Both have the same iGPU (Intel Iris Xe Graphics G7 80EUs)
Both have soldered RAM

Someone's small comparison video sorta featuring both laptops:

I bought it and used the 11th gen version for a week with the exact same opinions you have. The only exception is that I don't have an issue with the trackpad because I don't click it. I always tap and never click on it. If you're wondering about dragging, you can just do a tap before holding to drag stuff. I feel like people still click the trackpad because of older generation laptops, but it's really no longer needed. Maybe unless it's for someone with hand problems who can't double tap fast enough to drag.
I got the 11th gen deal a few weeks ago. Honestly the build quality really surprised me. It feels sturdy, top is metal, bottom is plastic but it's thicker. The screen brightness is not an issue at all, so 200/250-nits might be underselling it. It's plenty bright.

My biggest gripe honestly is the clicky-ness of the trackpad, which some might enjoy. I'm used to my lenovo which makes no sound, this one has a very audible "click". It's not something that would sway me from buying again though.

There's also a youtube review that shows you how to crank up the performance, not sure if the same is true on this. It does come at the expense of battery life.

If you don't need the touchscreen, I think the 11th gen deal is better overall.

Couldn't get WOWFRESH to work, but still a good price. Adding 3 years of protection for $59 and crossing my fingers that it can survive my soon-to-be college student daughter who wanted a touchscreen and isn't a gamer.

Looks decent for what it is. The RAM is soldered and not upgradable, and unclear if the drive can be swapped for an nvme or not.

Anyone actually get one? Heard they cheap out on build quality. Sounds like they are trying to make it sound like decent specs for the price on paper but do the bare minimum on everything else

It's too bad there's no longer an option for 16GB on these 12th gen models.

Non-upgradeable 8GB unfortunately kills it for me, but is USB-C port is data-only or does it also have both display and charging capability ?

Again, not this particular one, but the 11th gen USB-C model does charge/display.

To be honest, this is not a laptop that someone that would upgrade would buy. That's not knocking it down. It's not for an upgrader user-group. Someone who wants something that works,is cheap and has acceptable general capabilities, would love this thing.
It's not for AAA gamers, just like it's not for upgrading

I've wondered about tappers vs clickers. I got used to tapping because my 2012 HP Sleekbook had an integrated trackpad, so it didn't even have the option to click. So I've been a tapper ever since, even on laptops with clicking.
