Normally, these run for $179. They are very durable for those that need good portable tool boxes.

I got the 3 pieces in store separately last week for $0.94 more but I can get 11% back by rebate.

Two main advantages of the Ridgid set are the detachable wheels/handle and the included wall mounting hooks for the boxes.
These [amazon.com], these [amazon.com], or any other 1/4"-20 x 0.3-0.5" quick release pins should work. Just need to pull out the old screws, tap the existing hole for 1/4"-20, and replace with the QR pins. If you have the budget, I wouldn't discount Packout just because you can't remove the handle.

I have two Ridgid v1 stacks, and one Packout stack. I use one Ridgid stack for hauling around camera/lighting gear for events, and the other two for tools.
My key takeaways:

The Packout feels like it's built better, but all three have held up to a few years of abuse.
Packout has many more options if you're going to expand beyond the initial 3-piece stack. The drawer units are a big plus for the Packout lineup.
The Packout release button on the front vs the Ridgid metal clips on the sides is much easier to use, especially in tight quarters.
The Packout stuff has ~2" less internal storage width than the comparable Ridgid v1 stuff (the crate is ~4" narrower). The Packout wheels on the cart are also inset quite a bit more than the Ridgid. Ridgid offers more internal storage width at the cost of maneuverability.

That said, now that Ridgid has hinged the lid on the rolling cart (v1 wasn't hinged, and just completely detached once you unbuckled it), made the wheels detachable, added wall mount capabilities, and offer a half-width parts organizer [homedepot.com], it would be my recommendation over the Packout (taking the substantial price discrepancy into account) as long as you don't want/need drawers, or other specific Packout modules.
This is comparable to dewalts toughsystem, not packout.
Like toughsystem, more than enough quality and durability for the average homewoner/diyer.
If you aren't making a living with your tools, you don't need packout, but man it's nice if you have the cash.

I was so close to pulling the trigger on this. I watched a video review and it looks solid and a steal for this price. But check Ridgid's website in the. Q&A section: lots of broken handles and the answer is always "this is manufactured by Keter" and it lists a phone number. This is not confidence inspiring that the system will be expanded.

I have Milwaukee Packout and the Ridgid 1.0 versions. I chose the Packout wheeled base because it was so much more stout than the 1.0 Ridgid one, but this 2.0 version somewhat bridges the gap and the removable wheels/handle are a definite plus so I may have chosen Ridgid 2.0 if it was available at the time. But still, the Packouts are superior in construction quality and available options.

My main beef with Packout in general (other than cost, LOL) is that they are too big for my purposes as I will often just grab one "suitcase" to take to a job rather than wheel in the whole stack. The Ridgids are a perfect size for me, so I 3d printed some feet to be able to stack Ridgids on top of Packouts.

I have a few packout stacks and two of these stacks as well but the old version. I think they are great value if they can fit what you need. The packout are definitely nicer but you are looking at triple the price for a packout stack.

If you are making a living the packout is easier to organize so it may be worth it. If you just need a rolling toolbox the ridgid is hard to beat.

I've had my two stacks 10ish years and never broken the latches. The latches have popped off but you can just pop them back on.

I have the medium size toolbox (2.0 I believe), that I keep 4-5 Milwaukee power tools in, lol. I really like it and thought it felt more substantial than the dewalt counterpart. No experience with the Milwaukee system.

I own the rolling Milwaukee Packout, and my shop provided a rolling Ridgid box and the tool case in this deal that live on the truck. The Packout box gets dropped off the truck wheeled all over the place, occasionally gets splashed with sewage (drain cleaner), and has held up to all sorts of abuse. The Ridgid cases have been on the truck forever and have held up to being slammed around, dropped, and occasionally being thrown, as you do, and has held up fine. I think Milwaukee has cooler accessories, but for the price point, I wish I just went with Ridgid.

That being said, I work out of the packout the way most service guys work out of buckets, so I'm not using it to organize, I'm throwing what I need for a single job into it and keep a few tools I always need in the tray. YMMV

I paid about $100 for the v1.0 set and have been happy with it aside from the fact that my socket set won't fit in the wheeled box. To be fair though, it won't fit in any of them, including DeWalt, Milwaukee, etc. Soooo close, but not quite. That aside, they have held up well. They do still stink to hell though just like the day i got them.

Can you print something so we can add pack out drawers to the Ridgid system?

Ridgid fits under a Ram soft tonneau cover, Milwaukee doesn't because the handle sits taller. There are workarounds but a friend of mine chose Ridgid over packout bc of that. I also have Ridgid and like them.

I don't think so. The Ridgid attachment system is on the sides and the Packouts are wider than the Ridgids so if you could rig something up it'd be pretty awkward. I've heard rumors of Ridgid drawers coming, but as far as I know they are still just rumors.

My current stack is the Milwaukee base, then the drawers, then Packout modified Ridgid, then Ridgid, Ridgid, Ridgid, etc.

It is super quick and easy to replace the screws holding the Packout handle on with quickly removeable pins. I sure wouldn't use that as a reason to avoid Packout.
