The Duro has classic Casio high build quality. Casio is one of the only brands making quartz watches where the second hands hits the indices almost perfectly centered straight from the factory. It also has a full steel case, whereas the Timex is brass with a steel polish. The steel case will feel more substantial and likely age better over time, although it will show scuffs and scratches (but hey it's a $50 dive watch). Brass will probably feel lighter and maybe won't show scratches, but I do think the polished finishing can rub off over time, especially from sweat corrosion. Neither points are genuinely a big deal on such cheap watches, though.

I also appreciate the fact that you can outfit the Duro with an aftermarket sapphire crystal. It's definitely ridiculous spending the money to do that, but I think that's some of the fun that goes into the Casio modding community. People love tinkering with these watches and making them more unique and tough. It sort of takes the watch from what might seem like a disposable object to something you can appreciate a bit more over time.

Ultimately, the Duro has a level of design that I think makes them not just another Submariner knockoff. Yes, some of the bezel colors are straight up sub-inspired (the black and blue "Batman"), but then you have the aquatic blue-green that is genuinely unique. Duro just has something that makes it a bit of its own thing, which is hard to do in today's watch industry. In my opinion the Harborside is fully in homage territory, straight up trying to capture the attention of those who one day hope to own a Sub or Black Bay 58. Homage watches are fair game and spending $100 to responsibly scratch that itch should be encouraged. But then you can start looking at Chinese homage watches and how AliExpress opens up so many possibilities that get you a whole lot more watch for the same money or maybe just a bit more. There's a whole community of YouTube and Reddit dedicated to that seedier section of watch collecting, and I think it's kind of awesome. After all, most watches are a derivative of some old classic watch and few truly originals exist nowadays.

Edit: I'll add just on the topic of homage watches, Timex has really done this as their bread and butter for a long time. Some of their watches are reissues of timeless designs, while also keying in on what watch collectors are pushing to the front. You can see it all over on the Timex site, just look at which ones are currently sold out. A prime example is this Standard Chronograph in a tasty mint green. That is 100% Timex looking at the Breitling's mint green Navitimer and Premier models and pumping out a watch before the excitement peaks. https://www.timex.com/timex-stand...no#start=1

According to CCC this isn't the lowest price, but it's about $5 more than its lowest was back in Jan-Feb timeframe.

Overall, if needing a simple wear around watch when outdoors, this will do ya. Repped

that watch is really simple classy elegant. Not like the garish casio watches made to appeal to the lowest common denominator of the population !

You've clearly never worn the Casio Duro dive watch. It's a fantastic option compared to the lower quality Timex Harborside Coast. Yet the Timex is typically much more expensive. And this coming from someone who owns and loves both brands.

How do you compare the Duro and Harbor side? I've seen both online and curious what your thoughts are

Briefly owned this watch. Seduced by the design, but the strap was its downfall for me.

These watch listings often tell you the strap width, but the length is more important. This strap was about 10". My old Timex Expedition had a 8.5" strap. Apparently wrists have gotten chunkier. But I read the average male wrist size is about 7-7.5", so while my wrists seem a bit smaller than average, this strap seems excessive. As a result, the strap end came up to the bezel and stuck out, which doesn't look good. YMMV. (Or, YWMV - Your Wrist May Vary).

I contacted Timex to see if I could swap for a shorter strap and was told they only have one length for a strap of this width. I could have purchased a third-party band but that would have defeated the point of getting a deal on the watch.

Also note that this strap runs under the bezel and is effectively double thickness, and has lugs that stick out. I think this is sometimes called a NATO strap. In my opinion, this is a bulkier design than a conventional strap and doesn't go well with the relatively small bezel. Again, it probably looks better proportioned on a beefy wrist.

There's a similar green watch face unisex version that is slightly smaller for $30.54

Nato's are great because they are cheap and can be converted. If you do not like the double pass you can simply cut it out for a single pass. Same for any excess strap. This video gives you a quick tutorial on in.

Thanks. Interesting video (I didn't watch every minute but I think I get the gist). It still results in a layer of strap between the wrist and bezel but presumably it's less bulky than two layers. As for cutting the excess strap, I suppose if done well it would look OK but the end of the strap is rounded, which presumably makes it easier to slip through the clasp/keeper. If the strap were to be cut straight across and burned as in the video, it seems it would sacrifice some of that.
