Some dealers in my area, NE GA, are actually discounting the Ioniq5s $2500-$7500 right now. Not sure if that is a regional discount but the discounts seem to be coming from both the dealer and/or Hyundai. I know my local Hyundai dealer has had 3-5 Ioniq5s sitting in the front of their dealership for 1 - 2 months now that they can't seem to sell.

On a related note, the NHTSA just opened an investigation into the Ioniq5 due to reports that some Ioniqs are losing power while being driven. Not a full recall as of yet but enough complaints, around 30, to warrant a closer look. https://www.caranddriver.com/news...stigation/

Why buyout when you could invest those funds at a rate > 0.9%? Current 13-month CD's pay 4.3%.

Financing? Isn't the real deal when you do a lease, get the $7500 credit then do a lease buyout?

I have a Hyundai Tucson PHEV Limited (2022) with 9k miles. I just got it back after SIX MONTHS in the shop 4 months of which they couldn't / wouldn't provide a loaner car so I was paying out of pocket for rentals which is crazy expensive. I got a lawyer and they're being forced to buy it back but they are dragging it out for ever. I'll never own another Hyundai. Using the money to get a Tesla

Wait. Next year they'll take the 7500 off the purchase price, rates will be going down, and supply will be high.

You don't need this now. These have a long way to go. Tesla is significantly better.
Apart from tesla, other cars have bad charging tech / battery tech so don't fall for these. You will end up wasting lot of money.

EA -> VW via Dieselgate. I cannot answer for VW but they may be stubborn and stick to CCS to their detriment. As for the others if they want to survive they will go to NACS and/or CCS. But CCS in general is "probably" marked for death.
Yea i know VW had to put them all in (for something like 2 billion dollars iirc). Those chargers are there and I don't see any reason why the owners (be it VW or EA) would go and convert those at their own expense...

Also the whole CCS and Tesla connector thing is weird to me. The Tesla connector is nice, I guess, but 99.5% of our charging is at home, and .25% done outside is optional, so the connector could be a salad fork for all I care. I see people use the supercharger network to save 10 bucks instead of charging at home, and I wonder how much they think their time is worth. I have free charging on the BMW, and I've used it twice just to try it out, but it's not worth my time.

Yea you have a great point too, this is fast charging we are talking about which isn't even good for your battery to use all the time. Ideally you have a L2 charger at home that's your primary, the fast chargers are supposed to be for road trips and one-offs where you need to charge.

Tesla is owned by Musk, so no sale. I ws cool with Hyundai until the deal with cars being easily stolen due to no immobilizer.
My 2014 Ford PHEV only has 37k miles on it, so I am guessing I'll be fine for 10 more years.
Ah don't worry about this car and the famous Hyundai/Kia problem, it only affects keyed ignition cars, the Ioniq 5 is only available with wireless keys which aren't affected by the flaw.

Because the credit card is costing 27% APR.
Yeah, pay that CC off first, then invest the rest and reduce your monthly costs via the higher interest rate.

The problem with many car dealers right now is that not only are many cars going for more than MSRP (not only the dealers' faults), most dealers have exorbitant dealer fees. Then they add on all sorts of unnecessary dealer packages, some of which are not ones you can reject. Multiple dealers in my area automatically add clear coat protection and other things to every car so if you want a particular make and model of car, you have to buy from them and pay extra for their packages. In the past, they would wait to offer these to you at time of sale but now they do them automatically to every car. There are some dealers that don't do this but in my area they are rare.

In any case, it's probably best to lease electric cars until the plugs are standardized, which is happening, if you can deal with the limitations of a lease. Also, a lease with a Hyundai is where you can get the $7500 tax credit, if you qualify. If you won't qualify because you earn too much money, then it can be worth buying instead of leasing.
Yup complete assholes, taking full advantage of the situation, I wish there was some laws, which is against people buying forced bundles

Nope, both ends of the lease & investment strategy are annuities.

$40000 car made of tin can metal plus sales tax, full coverage insurance. Crazy price. I can find Mercedes for $3-5k and drive it for the next 10 years in comfort and savings on those electric cars are not even close if I go with used car option
and why bother with rent or mortgage+property taxes when you can just live in your mercedes

I think the real deal is buying a car that qualifies and not dealing with all this dealership drama.
