Some dealers in my area, NE GA, are actually discounting the Ioniq5s $2500-$7500 right now. Not sure if that is a regional discount but the discounts seem to be coming from both the dealer and/or Hyundai. I know my local Hyundai dealer has had 3-5 Ioniq5s sitting in the front of their dealership for 1 - 2 months now that they can't seem to sell.

On a related note, the NHTSA just opened an investigation into the Ioniq5 due to reports that some Ioniqs are losing power while being driven. Not a full recall as of yet but enough complaints, around 30, to warrant a closer look. https://www.caranddriver.com/news...stigation/

Why buyout when you could invest those funds at a rate > 0.9%? Current 13-month CD's pay 4.3%.

Financing? Isn't the real deal when you do a lease, get the $7500 credit then do a lease buyout?

Good luck finding one for MSRP, and if you do, it won't be a low MSRP.
Normally with a new model or something unusual like this, you'd be 100% right. But demand for these doesn't seem to be outstripping supply at all. Not sure what it is, but you can walk into a dealer (many, anyway) and buy one right now. That certainly wasn't the case with some new EV models. Heck, when the Hyundai Elantra was a new model around 2010 there were literally none on lots - dealers were selling stock numbers sight unseen weeks in advance. I'd fully expect Ioniq 5's to be hot like that now but but they aren't, for whatever reason, and they can be found below MSRP.

Consumer reports tested the Ioniq and it has braking light issues. Very bad for people who follow these cars.

There is a "hack" for this were you lease the car, get the $7500 tax credit, then immediately buy out the lease.

But they are giving these things away around here. 5 grand off because they are rotting on the lot now that the model 3 qualifies for the tax credit.
I'll never own a Tesla, their QC is absolute trash

They were first on the block, but the big boys are moving in.

Click Calculate every time you change anything in terms or car selection etc.. If you have 719 credit score, it would be 1.49% and cost you an extra $10.54 month in op's example. If you change to 60 months, changes rate as well.

I miss the days of more subsidized leases. That is when they could really save you. Could get $40k car with nothing down and $400 or less a month. These $1k/mo payments are brutal.

Go EVs!
Yeah, there was a golden age of leases not that long ago, when residual values were calculated to be mush higher vs MSRP/actual retail, thus leaving finance companies with a more valuable vehicle to sell at lease end, and lower lease payments for lessees. Leasing is still very attractive to older buyers as well as anyone who doesn't drive a ton of miles and places a high level of importance on always having a reliable vehicle under warranty, but things aren't like they were 15-20 years ago. If you don't have a decent down payment or trade in now, good luck swallowing the eye-popping monthly payments.

Teslas don't either. Looks up used values. I saw a 2022 SR M3 with 32k miles selling for $28k, still people didn't buy it

You have 4 apples and the car costs 4 apples. So you can either buy the car with your 4 apples, or the nice car man will let you pay with some of the apple slices that you get from your employer every month until you've paid a total of 5 apples. But meanwhile, you can lend the 4 apples you actually have now to someone else who will pay you back 6 apples later. With the second way, you have a shiny new car now, and a shiny apple later.
Think I need an apple now ...

Don't buy Hyundai. All my mechanics friends says they have the worse engine and will only cause you headaches in the end.
This is an electric car. Thanks for playing.

I got a 23 IONIQ 5 limited in February, also from Mastrovito, near Utica, NY. It is an absolute pleasure to drive. If you like Tesla, VW, Ford, etc. better, go for it! In my experience, no problems at all with the I5, not a single one.

Do you know which dealership is ready to drop the price that much?

The Leaf is literally the only EV to have serious problems with heat. Ever other modern EV is water cooled.

Now given that Phoenix is a monument to man's arrogance it's possible that liquid cooled battery would still overheat, but I'd be surprised if there was significant degradation like with the Leaf.
Nissan will give you a new battery if it degrades before about 65 to 70% in 8 years. Many have used and abused this with Nissan. Their lack of active cooling actually worked in favor of the consumer living in high heat areas.

Having said all of that, Nissan leaf or the Chevy bolt are the best commuter vehicles for most environments if you are able to charge at home. No need to spend extra money on a bigger battery that you would rarely ever use.

I picked up my Limited from the same dealership back in November. The drive back to Chicagoland was stress-free with no charging issues on the way back.
