Every person I know who has bought one of these has sold it in favor of a full-powered ebike. You're too fast to ride with acoustic bikes, and too slow to ride with the other electric bikers.

No, you can't "derestrict" it to have more power. Even if you could unlock the firmware, and you can't, it's built for absolute minimum weight and would burn up.

There's nothing wrong with the bike itself. But in my experience, you probably won't be happy with it. That's why resale is so bad: everyone buys it, realizes they should have bought a full-power Class 1 ebike, and passes it on to another rider just getting into ebikes who finds out the same thing.

Buy the full Levo. Great bike, SL is very underpowered. Also, Levo SL resale is junk if you ever go to sell it.

As someone who owns one of these for about half a year thus far, I have to say it's a good bike, BUT it's lacking advantages of either acoustic bikes or full powered EMTBs. This may be great for fit riders, of which I am not, so I can't give that perspective. I find myself either wanting more power, or no power. Just my opinion. Cheers!

This is how you get sucked in. I'd probably go with the Expert Carbon level to step up to the SRAM X01 drivetrain, but you are still getting aluminum wheels. The sale prices are reasonable, but can't see paying MSRP for these.

I do really like these newer lighter weight ebikes that are coming out. I tried to talk my wife into one, but she doesn't want to ride an ebike.
Your wife has higher standards than some of my friends, good on you.

How does this compare to Stromer? Similar price range - but those seem to be longer range, power etc. But the tradeoff is weight in back with motor. And this seems to be a tad more natural with weight distribution.

I had the Levo SL a couple years ago. I bought it after knee surgery so I could keep riding while my knee recovered. For that purpose it was fantastic. I was still pedaling, but I could avoid straining my knee.

Once the knee was recovered I sold it for the reason others cite. For my local trails I'd rather ride my lighter weight Yeti. For longer trails with 1500+ vertical foot logging-road climbs to the top I'd rather have a lot more power and a bigger battery for more runs..

The Levo SL is a great e-bike for the right person, but in my opinion it's a niche market.

Buy a bigger capacity Levo. I have 19 Levo comp carbon with 500w for my use and level of fitness takes me at least up to 20 miles of assist on and off and no problems until now, but wish I got the expert with 700w to avoid battery anxiety. If you are strong the SL should be fine, but for me, the bigger capacity, the better, also with e-bikes, weight is already a given around 40lbs and up.

Thanks. I've been looking at the Levo Carbon at $5K. Went to a store to look at it and the store employee told me I should go with the Levo Comp Alloy at $5600, based on the bigger battery, brakes, suspension, etc.

I really wanted to be at $5K and a carbon ebike. What are your guys thoughts?
Which bike is the best bang for your bucks and features?

I think this is the 5th time they've reduced the prices. They're shipping the new models with Master Mind TCU now (last year's Levo Comp Alloy only had a TCU).

One of the most useful product analyses I have seen in Slickdeals.

Thanks for sharing. Looking to get into a high end ebike. How does this model compare to the Turbo Levo Carbon at $4999? Just not sure if this model is worth $500 more?

https://www.specialized.com/us/en...860-220835

Do you think at $5K is a good price or potentially can drop more and how did you get the store to absorb the tax?
I just did about six months of research and test riding before buying my ebike in April. The levo was in my final 3 bikes. The distillation of my research and experience: get a full power ebike if your friends have ebikes or you plan to keep your regular bike. If you primarily ride for fitness and don't ride with other ebikes, the lightweight ones are a good option.

For the levos specifically, theon you linked is a downgraded model with a smaller battery and a downgraded display. The comp aluminum has the same display but a larger battery. The comp carbon is the lowest level with the full featured display. I put a down payment on the carbon comp before I found an unexpected deal for a Santa Cruz that I couldn't pass up.

For ebikes generally, the bosch motor is generally the most powerful and can be repaired. The levo (brose) is the quietest and isn't far off for power. It has by far the best software and display. Shimano has the largest dealer network but is NOT serviceable, so if anything goes wrong you have to replace the entire motor. Specialized is great about warranty replacement for the two years the warranty lasts. The bosch and shimano motor warranties will rely on who made your bike (and your local shop).

They've launched the new Levo SL and they are cleaning up stock. The "mark 1" was the first light eMTB and as such it got outpaced by both the Orbea Rise & the Trek Fuel EXe that were more powerful, more silent & better feeling.

The new SL takes a completely new approach in design (non integrated battery, & weight without one is under 30lbs @ expensive builds tested). Motor is refined and better than this.

The light eMTBs are a niche. Not for keeping up with other full power eMTBs, but for an extra ooomph if you are enjoying it solo, or trying to keep up with much stronger friends on regular bikes, or you want to keep you fitness up in the recovery days w/o throwing around a 50lbs full power bike, or if you are doing eMTB tourism by air and cannot fly with integrated batteries that are yuge.

Guys with the walmart bikes, or upvoting those not in the market for a new emtb that post one-liners for the lulz, congrats: you bought used cars for less 10y ago? Cool beans. Others paid markups 2* more than this bike to buy a new car last couple of years...for them is "cheap". It's all perspective.

Long story short, I'd skip this SL v1. Not because I'd be happy with a walmart bike like some commenting here, but because there are better horses for those courses already.

I ride here in Auburn/Truckee/Tahoe area 2x a week and have seen 2 of these ebikes. Both riders were chubs out in the latest wear and definitely newbs. These are not the type of people who will show up to work on a trail cleanup day. These are slow sellers but cash cows for the bike shops.
