I love Harbor Freight. I shop there all the time, and upgrade what breaks. Which actually doesn't happen all that often. Some of their brands (Doyle, Icon, and even Hercules/Bauer for drill bits and stuff) have served me well for a while and saved some money.

But I won't buy power tools from them. The 90 day warranty is an issue. The weird, mixed up power tool product lines are confusing. I don't have guarantees of consistent battery types for the foreseeable future.

If you're going to get inexpensive power tools, just get Ryobi. Better warranty, same battery for the last million years, frequent sales and discounts, and made by a massive conglomerate company that has minimal risk of going away. They also have a huge variety of tools.

Or don't buy Ryobi. You don't have to listen to me, you can make up your own mind. But that's my opinion.

Maybe if youre just using it at home once in awhile. For production, no. I would go with the name brands.

For $20 more you can get a similar deal on their Hercules tools. Supposedly higher quality line with a 5 year warranty. My friend used this deal to buy the Hercules 1/2" impact wrench. Seems like a decent tool for the price, but note that Harbor Freight torque ratings are exaggerated and can't be directly compared to the name brands.

I agree. When ryobi goes on sale (and that happens often at home depot) you'll probably get better tools for the same or even less amount of money with ryobi.

Agree wholeheartedly. I buy all sorts of hand tools at HF. I have only had 2 power tools from them. One a multi tool I bought on sale was dead out of the box, but I had it for over the 90 day period before using it and was stuck with it. The other, a grinder, literally blew up in my face while cutting a tile. Thankfully,I had safety gear on. No more HF and electricity. I am just a weekend warrior and Ryobi has served me well.
