FYI ram is soldered
I could care less but I'm sharing incase someone does.
If you are worried about upgrading RAM, are you going to be looking at a $200 laptop anyway?

This wouldn't be bad to mess around with Linux. And as the other user said, this is much better than buying a chromebook.

Yes in every way. A SD is not about cost, it is about value.

I have a similar vintage machine, the Motile M140 from Walmart that I got over 3ya. Same SOC and same everything else ..just less SSD. Despite having just one ram slot...at least it had that. I upgraded to 16gb early on, and to this day it's quite usable.

If you want a $200 machine, you can get a used Thinkpad t480 with upgradable everything for This cost or less. They use 8th gen Intel cpus so they're directly comparable. Absolutely wonderful machines in 2023. My wife uses a work issued machine. No issues

Random link on eBay for an $186 machine...even includes refurbished warranty.

You could get a faster CPU (1035g7) for a bit more but by the time you get to that vintage, upgradability disappears since every manufacturer got stupid by then...

1366 x 768 display vs fhd. Can't upgrade the display either. So better display resolution and less RAM for a bit less money. CPU edge to the thinkpad.

I have the intel i5 version that I got last year. Good if you don't care about the fan noise and have external mouse and keyboard. The mousepad on this is pretty bad. That said, I spent 5 days working on this during a road trip, so it's usable but not great.
I have another one that I just left it on a shelf accessed by remote desktop software. Both are still running great.
