These suck and go bad in a few months if you actually use them every day.

I used it every day and the ceramic coating flakes off the inside of the mug. Technically it's safe but the cup looks awful inside and something about knowing the ceramic continues to flake off in my drink bothered me.

I stopped using mine and got a dumb version of a electric warming mug from Walmart for $40 and it has lasted me over 2+ years with no paint or coating flaking. The inside looks a little scratched up but that's to be expected. No flaking off substance though.

I would not recommend this unless you really need Bluetooth and app connection

Feel free to look up ember mub flaking you'll see it's super common. At least it was on the Ember 2 mug I had, not sure they've fixed it in newer models.
Use brickseekfree for user and password.
Mine lasted about two years of daily use before it started flaking. Threw it in the trash. Wouldn't but it again for full retail, especially considering the MSRP price increase.

Were they both Rose Gold? Or were other colors on clearance too?
At my Target it was only the rose gold. The ember travel mug was on sale but out of stock.

look up the burnout travel mug. it's got a layer of phase change material inside that melts at about 140F. Pour hot drink in, latent heat of fusion sucks energy out as the wax melts, drink drops temperature quickly. Wax slowly hardens as the drink tries to cool but the whole thing stays at 140F until all the wax has resolidified.

It's kind of like how a glass of water with ice will stay at exactly 32F until all the ice has melted, even though you're adding energy into the cup by leaving it out. No batteries required, either.
If you look up the Ember cup tech. That's how I recall their explaination of the technology employed. There is a layer of phase change material that absorb the heat. And between that and the heating element. It does it's best to reach and maintain the set drinking temp via PID loop until the battery dies out. Similar to what's utilized as basis of sous vide technology in the control loop that ensure the set temp doesn't deviate.

You clearly haven't followed the maintenance instructions on how to wash and care for the mug. Also their warranty program is pretty fantastic they'll replace mugs and saucers even years after purchase

I got the rose gold 10 oz version. But my drinks taste funny, there is a metallic taste I get that seems to get worse , it usually take me 30 mins to 45 mins to finish my drink. When I researched about this on goodhousekeeping site found this is a known issue. I hope its not some coating leeching into my drink.

The app for these is terrible. The cup disconnects and never will reconnect to it. Take a look at the reviews in the different app stores.
I always have to reconnect mine almost every single time but it does save your settings once you reconnect. But you shouldn't have to do that, obviously, so you're absolutely right...app is trash.

The MSRP of Ember's products is laughable. One was given at a secret santa exchange (the highest exec has brought some gifts far above the $20 limit) and nobody knew the true MSRP value except one of my colleagues. I was shocked when I found out. Should have grabbed it and sold it on eBay.

Finally reunited with my beloved Ember cup thanks to this deal. My last one lasted about 2.5 years before I killed it. And since then, instead of lowering the price...they increased it. So I have been bumming it with the cheaper Ion mugs in the mean time. Which although not Ember in quality and feature, it does the basic of keeping the set temp at 135 and 140, the two temp I use the most.

I keep trying, but can't enjoy drinking my daily americano or occasional Latte in a non Ember mug.

I missed the previous Ember cup deals. Makes non sense to explain why the Ember is different because it just breed more competition for these deals whenever they do pop up. So let those ignorant of the nuances of the tech in these embers vs other heating mug means more chances for those who can appreciate to nab the deals.

I have the first gen 10oz mug. I have to imagine the newer generations are not as frustrating. Whatever bluetooth chip they used in it was garbage. Getting it connected can be a chore. Doing a firmware update required me to downgrade the Android app to an older version otherwise it would fail at 50% and I would have to wipe it from the app and my phone.

My sister in law has a newer generation 14oz one and has not had any issues.

For those wondering why, it does a great job getting to a specific temperature. The warmers tend to make the coffee near boiling and I like my coffee at 135F. It was perfect when I was doing long trainings.

Here are the links for the others on clearance and their 70% price. These have been on clearance for awhile so most stores with stock left should be at 50% and if not should be 70% soon. DO NOT use brickseek, it hasn't worked for Target in several years and just pulls data from their website. Just use the target inventory and if it doesn't let it you order for pickup despite being in stock then it's on clearance, but whether its 30,50, or 70% off you will need to see for yourself in store. Also, if you do not see it on the shelf, get them to check the back.

Thanks for the info. Repped! I know Brickseek hasn't been reputable for Target inventory for a while, but is it still a good guide/estimator for the price?

No because it doesn't show the in store clearance price and hasn't in a very long time. It's pulling data from what you see already online

I have the 14 oz Rose gold Version and I can say that the app is VERY buggy.
At least on Android, it will not update. And sometimes it will not connect to the cup without having to reset it.
It seems the cup will work fine without it though, and that is all I care about. it keeps coffee hot and the Rose Gold looks cool AF. It's more like copper. Previously I used a warming pad, this is a lot better. Its worth getting a nice cup like this for 50 for sure. 179 ? Hellllll no. But for 50 its worth it.
