It almost certainly won't. 100W cables should be assumed to be USB2.0 until stated otherwise, for USB-C data connections you'd probably want something with at least the USB 3.1 spec though ideally thunderbolt 3 and above.
Welcome to USB-C, iPhone 15 users.

Because virtually no charging applications need data.

Because 10gbps+ cables are more expensive to make.

They exist, you just have to be willing to spend more for them. You'd rather these less expensive options didn't exist and you & everyone else had to pay $30 for a USB 3.0+ data cable just to charge? No thanks.

It's a very welcome addition, and a strong reason to finally upgrade for many that have been holding onto older iPhones for 3-5+ years (alongside everything else to be gained). One cable to rule them all, finally (nearly) completing Apple's transition to USB-C. They're on the USB IF (implementers forum), guys... Sure money was a motivating factor, but it also didn't hurt to wait a little longer until USB-C chargers were ubiquitous to finally switch either.. especially as some manufacturers are no longer including wall chargers with their phones anymore.

To others in this thread - trash iPhones all you want, but the typical Android phone manufacturer stops providing software/security updates for their phones after 2 years - that's less than HALF of how long iPhones usually receive updates (~5 years). They're still bringing major updates to their phones from 2018.
Do you mean the iOS updates that slow devices to a snail?

iPhone Pro shoulda have usbc when iPad Pro got release. Now theres lighting to usbc adapters to avoid trashing lighting cables

For everyone claiming that this is a USB 2.0 cable, at the bottom of the product page, in the Product information section, it lists a (presumably maximum) Data Transfer Rate of 5 Gigabits Per Second. If that's accurate, that would make this cable USB 3.1 GEN 1 or USB 3.2 GEN 1x1:
  • USB 2.0 supports up to 480 Mbps
  • USB 3.0 supports up to 4.8 Gbps
  • USB 3.1 GEN1 | USB 3.2 GEN1x1 supports up to 5 Gbps
  • USB 3.1 GEN2 | USB 3.2 GEN1x2 | USB 3.2 GEN 2x1 supports up to 10 Gbps
  • USB 3.2 GEN 2x2 supports up to 20 Gbps

4th pic show 480mbps transfer speed. if it was 3.1, they would had mentioned it.

Cable length also dramatically impacts throughput too. A 10ft USB 3.2 Gen 2 cable is slower (sometimes by more than 50%) than a 3ft one.

At 1.50 fee per MFi certified cable and a billion devices, that sounds like a logical reason.

They don't care if you buy their cable, 1.50 per certified is money in the bank to own a standard. Just ask Qualcomm, broadcom, or anyone else who owns IP.
If MFi made cables more expensive, why are usb c cables the same price? I've been looking at them now to replace the 40 lightning cables I have around the house and cars. Pro-Consumer!

I bought my Ipad Pro in 2018. Basically a giant iPhone, and even it has USB C. I know why they waited (their proprietary lightning connection and licensing for them being in a lot of revenue), but it's still kind of surprising that it took so long.

Does anyone know the quality of these cables (for charging purposes - will they damage my phone)? Also, are they compatible with the Otterbox Defender Series case? Thanks!

And the listing photo says 480mbps. That's the problem with this chinese garbage. You have no idea what you're actually getting and you can't turn to the reviews because they're all fake or for a different product. I'd love to know what peoples experiences are like with the right angle connector but all the reviews are for a different cable altogether. Only deceptive sellers change the product on a page with established reviews in order for you to think that the reviews are for the new product.

There is indeed conflicting information in the listing. I just received this cable. When time permits, will test it out w/ an NVME flash drive in an enclosure which supports up to USB 3.2 speed to see if it copies data faster than 480mpbs.

Completely agree about the reviews being fake or for a different product. Very annoying indeed.

Will try to perform some of my own tests to see if this cable transfers faster than USB 2.0 speed (480mpbs).

Unless they're mac users, then they've had USB-C since 2016. Not sure why Apple was so early with their computers and so late with their phones.
Apple was FORCED to use USB C, they did not do this by choice.

They are now forced to make iPhones repairable, hence the easy to remove back glass.

Apple has also been FORCED to make batteries changeable by 2024/2025.

If you left it up to Apple you would never get ANY of this

Performed a simple test as follows:

1) Using a laptop which has a USB 3.1 Gen 2 USB-C / TB3 port (supporting up to 10gbps via USB-C), connected an NVME (M.2 Gen 3) drive to the laptop using the following enclosure (capable of up to USB 3.2 GEN 2 speeds):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MNFH1PX/

2) On the laptop, setup a 4GB RAM drive (to eliminate bottlenecks of writing data to internal HDDs / SSDs)

3) Copied a ~1.75GB file from the NVME drive (in the external enclosure) to the RAM DRIVE using the Basesailor cable advertised in this thread. Speed never exceeded 40MB/sec (which is 320mpbs), typically stayed in the 37MB-38MB/sec range. Copy took at least 10 seconds, maybe even as long as 30 seconds.

4) Disconnected the NVME drive, connected the native USB-C cable it came with (which is perhaps 6 inches long, so significantly shorter than the Basesailor cable)

5) Copied a different file that was over 1.8GB in size from the external NVME drive to the RAM drive. Copy completed so fast (under 1 second), was unable to see the data transfer speed.

6) Copied both the 1.75GB and 1.8GB files to the RAM drive next. Copy once again completed fast (under 2 seconds).

Based on the rudimentary tests above, this Basesailor cable is indeed USB 2.0, and for that reason I'll be returning it. The product description listing 5gbps as its max data transfer rate is incorrect.

This cable sucks. It falls out of my MacBook randomly. I'm going to get this order refunded.
