I was hoping the 5800X3D would go on sale. Is there a big performance difference between the two? I'm mainly focused on gaming.

Was looking at benchmarks, yes x3d has a huge lift in some games

Seems like they're going to wait an extra long time to discount the 5800x3d. All of us 5600x-ers are trying to be patient. Feels like intentional withholding.

This was a great upgrade from my 2700x but be aware it runs HOT. I naively thought my Wraith Prism air cooler would continue to work for me, but it sounded like a jet engine and the chip was thermal throttling. I upgraded to a 360mm water cooling setup and that handles it just fine, but it was an extra cost I probably should have known I needed to budget for!

I built on a 5800x last year right around BF (paid $200ish at mc). Upgrading from an i7-3770K build.
