These threads wouldn't be complete without the people that don't understand the mountain bike market breaking out the same tired, old cost arguments. As someone who got into the sport four years ago and progressed from a $1k Kona to a $2k to a $7k Pivot, I understand how outsiders are confused by this. I couldn't understand why they were so expensive when I started because I didn't have the skills to feel the difference.

A $200 mountain bike is junk. It isn't going to last and, at worst, it's going to get you hurt if you don't know what you're doing and take it somewhere you shouldn't. A $1k-$1.5k bike will likely be well built and fine. There are real differences above that price, but you do hit diminishing returns. A $2-$3k bike will have better components (shift better, probably have a dropper post, likely tubeless tires, smoother transmission components like GX or SLX) and will feel quite a bit nicer. This is the land of nice hard tails and low end full suspension bikes.

If you're spending $5k plus, you're looking at carbon frames, higher end group sets that shift more reliably and snappier, name-brand suspension parts that are likely more tunable, etc. It's much less of a performance difference than the department store bike to a $1k bike, but there's value in it if you are riding the kinds of trails where it matters. A full suspension bike is way more forgiving of mistakes.
Anyone in TX want to go in half a pair?
Man, I guess manufacturers really thought Covid demand was going to be sustainable. Could see this coming from a mile away.

Seems you have to buy one then get one of equal or lesser value free.

So $3400 for two!
