I noticed this in the AT&T Consumer Service Agreement, which we're required to acknowledge in the final stage of placing the order (boldface added by me):

Regardless of the reason or whether your or we terminate your AT&T Services:

· unless required by applicable law, there is no proration of charges and you are still responsible for the full month's payment even if your AT&T Services are terminated in the middle of a billing cycle;
Seems like others are having success, but this means AT&T could enforce the $60 fee for the first month, right? Or is there something else that supersedes this?

I talked to an agent @ (800)331-0500 and they said they can't cancel it and I should bring it up with Best Buy first :/ Not sure what I'm doing wrong

I would say try again with a different agent.

I just canceled mine and went to an overseas agent. I called initially and did a call back rather than wait on the phone. Agent wasnt too pushy but I was on hold for a bit. She mentioned having to work with a backoffice team to do the cancellation but confirmed service is cancelled immediately and even offered that there is no activation under BRE (buyers remorse). They also sent a confirm email. Hope this helps.

Any additional things I need to watch out for to ensure the account is closed, closed or am I good?

Spending 2hr today also and I get in unendless loop… all representatives take me to loyalty department then no body answers .. don't even to think to get this phone ..

I ordered phone for delivery. Got email from ATT right after I placed order and email to register the account.
Does that mean I can cancel the line and close account? Phone shipment status shows packaging and not shipped yet.

Saw this listing last night, followed the OP's directions walked into a BB and voila in less than 15min I received a new phone for free*

The sales associate at best buy was scratching his head when I left.

Here's what I did
Click on the SD link below
Click Pricing option: $99
Add to cart
Click the AT &T option (the only of the 3 NOT $99)
You'll still be on BB site but now deal with AT&T
Click: Let's Get Started
Click: No and Continue for "do you currently have AT&T service"
Click: No thanks
Click: Continue w/o a trade-in
Click: Transfer a number (I used one of my google voice# to avoid activation fee)
Enter the phone number in the 1st & 3rd field and your zip in the 2nd
The page will reload showing the entered info Click: Continue
Select Plan: AT&T Value Plus (the cheapest offered @ $61)
Click: Continue
Go to Cart: The phone will be in the cart for $0
You'll need to enter your DOB & SSN.

*By selecting a google number and picking it up at the store there was no activation fee. However, once you cancel the plan you may lose the google number since AT&T ported it out to finalize the deal and when you cancel the plan you lose the number but keep the shiny new N30 phone

I was prompted by AT&T to do a soft credit pull which took two secs to approve.

After I got home around 11p ET I went online to try and cancel the line via chat, but was told I need to cancel with an agent from 8a-9p. So this morning I called and in a few minutes I had a canceled account that goes into effect tonight at midnight without me owing anything for the phone.

I called ATT to cancel and they said its cancelled. I also got an email about the same. However, when I login to my ATT profile I still see the line active. Does it take some time to get it reflected there?

It doesn't matter, it's just a temporary thing.
It happened to me..I gave the pin to bb..they have worked with att to activate.. got the phone today. Called bb and canceled it.

I do not see the line..for both my accounts.
