I got a few 12-packs of Squirt yesterday when it was 3 for $15. I also had a coupon for an extra $7 Walgreens cash for spending $30.

So expensive but I also see Albertsons raising the price to $5 each for their sales. I just say no and buy from Dollar General, they have as low as 3 for $11-13 still. Last week got Dr Pepper products 3 for $11 and you get $5 off $25 on Saturday.

Expensive compared to target deals that come up time to time for 3 something for a 12 pack

I don't mind the $4 per 12 pack price point but I can never understand why anybody would by a 12 pack for $8.99. Of all the grocery stores in my area one of them usually has a sale price between 4 and 5 dollars. I was paying $2-3 on sale in the early 2000s, $4 seems like normal inflation.

It's $9.99 regular price at my local Ralph's/Kroger's. I can't imagine anyone ever buying these full price.

This is why I don't believe the government's inflation numbers (18% total in last 3 years). I am certain these were $3.99 when not on sale 3 years ago. That's a 150% increase in price. Ditto a million other things at the grocery store.

Make. 👏 Soda.👏 Affordable.👏 Again.👏

I've entirely quit, but not because I want to. Not because of health reasons. It's because I can't f*cking afford it anymore.

Yes. Pepsi+Frito Lay is reporting record profits for the fourth quarter in a row. During their recent shareholder meeting, they said that they intend to push to cost to as high as the market will bear, since the other soda companies will follow suit, and, although their sales have been slowing domestically, they expect interest rates to fall this year, "freeing up American incomes for luxury goods." And that they expect that foreign sales will make up the loss. In short, they're making a conscious decision to fark us, knowing that, should Trump get reelected they can get away with it, since he has expressed his intent to reverse Biden's anti-shrinkflation push.

Donno if anyone cares, but I had to look for an alternative to these ludicrous prices. Found "stars and stripes" 93oz bottle of regular or diet cola at dollar tree $1.25. The diet variety is literally the best diet soda ive ever had (pepsi and coke zero sugar are better, but barely). Keeps its fizz by squeezing out air and putting cap on tightly.

Biden's anti-shrinkflation push.
What can the government do to combat shrinkflation other than to call it out? They can't force product pricing, can't force packaging sizes of products, and any fines they attempt will almost certainly be written in a way that allows companies to dodge said fines. Bad optics is about the only lever the government has at their disposal here.

The power to combat these practices doesn't lie with the government (their control over private business is limited, and with good reason), it lies with the consumers. If brands shrink their packaging and charge the same price, find another brand that doesn't, buy a store brand, stop buying that produce altogether. Only when a brand pushes far enough that their decisions start to cost them money do they have any incentive to change those decisions.

We aren't talking about "core" foods here, things like milk, eggs, meat, fruits and vegetables, etc. all cost more too, but usually not due to "shrinkflation". You aren't seeing 11-packs of eggs, or 9lb bags of potatoes so far. The brands that do this are almost exclusively highly processed, conveniently packaged, and frequently unhealthy items that humans can probably live without. If enough people start to live without them, they will get the message. Not because government asked them nicely to stop the practice, but because that practice started to cost them money.
