Anova is having a clearance of these, so I guess they will be on sale until they run out. the nano was on sale previously around this same price point, and the red version is still on sale. this is a better version as it is a 1000-watt version so it can get hotter quicker and circulate more water.

I cook 5-6lbs of meat or less at a time and the Nano works great.

Only thing the WIFI is good for is more precise timed cooking. Especially if your significant other doesn't especially like the texture of longer cooks in sous vide.

I use the WIFI all the time on my unit when I'm away from home and want to get it heated or stopped faster. It also has the added benefit of correctly changing the temperature on my aging unit which can't be set manually

Just tried mine for the first time tonight. Excellent filet.

I wish I had purchased the base ( on sale for $6) though. Now it would be $6 plus $11 shipping for a piece of plastic.

Try Temu, eBay, Etsy or Amazon for one with good reviews

The shipping charges and stuff were kind of annoying, but I managed to get to 100.49 cents before tax on the order to get free shipping:

precision cooker with wifi, $69
-add optional 1 year extended warranty for $6.49
precision cooker base, $6
Handheld Vacuum Sealer, $18.99
(removed redo free returns)

So, the warranty amount and the "redo unlimited returns for $3.98" both qualify for getting over the $100 threshold for free shipping, so you can play around with that and any other accessories that work for you.

What are y'all using to sear? I've had disappointment with torches (indoors), too much smoke with stove top, and have resorted to the searing section of my grill which...tbh I don't like using in the rain.

Based on previous mishaps with smoke alarms, I did some research and discovered that the Internet recommend a heavy cast iron pan. Preheat it to 450°F, then sear the meat for about a minute on each side. By using avocado oil, which has a high smoke point, I've managed to avoid setting off my smoke alarms.

I use cast iron but you could always reverse sear it in the broiler. Or afterwards with some butter. I've done both. I prefer searing after sous vide, that way I can dress the board as it's hot enough to melt the butter, and extract some extra flavor from the salted onions and garlic.
