May just be my imagination, but VioletB's terse response came across as snarky. Anyway, here's a bit more. You may have success, as coolstar.org reports that the IdeaPad 5i (NOT a 5) can be successfully Window-fied:Here's a nice little YT walkthrough by impressive young Brandon Yen:His vid shows you'll have to get handsy with the hardware, but he does a great walkthrough to guide you.
Finally, I suspect that the 128GB SSD is actually a 128GB eMMc. Translation: have your 500/512GB 'actual' SSD ready to install when you go inside the case.

If you take the plung, please do your SD compadres a solid and report back to us.
Hope this helps.

Yes, but there are caveats. You will need to replace the drive as the eMMC is not seen by Windows installer (I could not find a driver for the eMMC controller). You'll need a suzyQ cable to remove the firmware write protection. You'll need to purchase the USB4/Thunderbolt and audio drivers from Coolstar. There are quirks with the keyboard and number pad, and I'm not sure they are resolved. I didn't crack mine open to replace the drive once I realized all the hoops. Good luck.

Great feedback! My remarks were intended to offer a little more substance than the original response s/he got. Based on checking a few fora, seems Coolstar is asking $10 patreon for pre-building open source drivers. Two thoughts:

1. Base on compatibility chart, looks like 2 drivers will be needed: Audio & USB 4.
2. The (apparent) no-cost alternative is DIY driver download and build (potentially not be for the faint of heart).

The obvious proposition: is this IP5 worth the 2x$10 for drivers and $35 for the SSD and the potential chromebook-to-Win11 conversion hassles?

I would say yes for a linux distro conversion, but Win11? I think I would pass.

Anyway, again, great feedback. Coolcoder now has enough leads to do some good how-to investigation.

I was able to remove the WP on this unit without a suzyQ cable using the following method:

https://www.reddit.com/r/chromeos...cable_for/

It worked for me on the first try. I'm currently waiting for my SSD to arrive through aliexpress. I was able to purchase a 256 GB 2242 SSD with 500mb/s write & read speeds for 10 USD through a new user promotion.

Currently I'm using a Linux live distro running through a USB stick, I have 0 issues with the keyboard mapping but backlight does not work, nor does audio. Audio can be fixed with a free driver on linux based systems, however this does not work on live distributions and must be installed on a SSD aswell.

I also was not able to have the emmc detected during the windows installation. I suspect this has to do with the make of the emmc as I took it out and put it in my desktop hoping to format it, unfortunately it still was not detected.

Hope this helps someone. Gluck

Great feedback. I'm a Fedora 39 (preferred) and Win 11 Pro (as necessary) user. Your experience is tempting me to order one and tinker. I'm not loving the 2 P-cores (VMs via Box) nor lack of backlight, but if I got this going for the deal price, would be a solid deal. I've test driven a new one of these a bit before Xmas -- fantastic display plus quality build, though I've read some gripes about IP 5i display hinge breaks. Not sure if that was an issue for this IP 5.

Wow, thanks so much for the useful tips by everyone on this thread. I didn't realize that it would be such a hassle to install Win 11 on this laptop. The only reason I was even considering it was due to the pretty amazing display specs for the price, but I am glad I decided to pass. Thanks again for the advice. Repped.
