For the people complaining about the fingerprint sensors -
A really good trick is putting the same finger in twice.
I have my left thumb saved twice in my 6pro and it's fast and flawless. My other fingers take much longer to detect. Seems silly but works very well with this method.
I'm a current Google Fi user so I take advantage of the phone deals constantly. I am on the $20/month plan which charges $10 per gig of data since I'm a light data consumer. If you go with an unlimited data option, the phone deal isn't with it probably. Something like US Mobile would be more cost effective in the long term and buying the phone outright.
MKBHD said the 8 is better. Better screen, better materials, better camera sensor. However this deal is much cheaper for Google-Fi customers. I have Pixel 5a, 6a, 7 currently. Loved 5a physical finger sensor, works instantly. On-screen finger sensor on 6a and 7 are problematic for me. I switched to Moto ThinkPhone and it has been a dream to use. Think phone gets immediate security and OS updates and everything works flawlessly. Couldn't be happier.

The standard mode on 6a, 7a, 8a fingerprint sucks
The oversensitive mode works like a charm in the setting. No more 5 trys to unlock. Works 90% first time
is this better than the pixel 8? i was doing a comparison, other than model name 8 vs 8A and slight update in the camera, they are almost identical. as a matter of fact, 8 has better video frame rates. is that true?
8 is better or the same. But 90% of the time 8 is the exact same
I'm waiting for either 8a or 8 to start showing up on marketplace or Craigslist or eBay. There always appears to be people buying them for some sort of bonus then selling for cheap. If you go local, no tax ๐ค

The pixel 8 is better at space heating for the cold chilly mornings.
Starting June 20, 2024, VPN by Google One will be discontinued if that matters to you.
VPN by Google One (the app and standalone service) will go away, but VPN by Google (the built-in VPN) will supersede it.

The pixel 8 was $499 just the other month. No way I'm paying $499 for a base 8a...
When the Pixel 8 was $499, there was no $100 gift card (currently available from all retailers with the 8a) and no boosted trade-in values (worth another ~$100 for your typical Pixel 6a owner looking to upgrade).

8a will probably fall to $349 in a few months.
8 pro is definitely worth the $500 mark
If this goes anything like the Pixel 7a, Google will hold the line on pricing for a while. It didn't drop below $400 on Amazon until November 2023 and only hit $349 last month (~11 months after launch).

Yeah but how long does that $100 store credit last? I got a referral bonus in the Google Store and expires about 6-9mo after issue. (edit: the $100 credit expires in one year. who upgrades phones EVERY year? lol)
Also, my 6a was worth about $105ish a few weeks ago and I got $300 for my 4a 5g when the 6a was released. Wonder if that was only due to the chip shortages. Not sure if holding out for that much is worth it

If you're buying outright, definitely go for 8.
