For the people complaining about the fingerprint sensors -
A really good trick is putting the same finger in twice.
I have my left thumb saved twice in my 6pro and it's fast and flawless. My other fingers take much longer to detect. Seems silly but works very well with this method.
I'm a current Google Fi user so I take advantage of the phone deals constantly. I am on the $20/month plan which charges $10 per gig of data since I'm a light data consumer. If you go with an unlimited data option, the phone deal isn't with it probably. Something like US Mobile would be more cost effective in the long term and buying the phone outright.
MKBHD said the 8 is better. Better screen, better materials, better camera sensor. However this deal is much cheaper for Google-Fi customers. I have Pixel 5a, 6a, 7 currently. Loved 5a physical finger sensor, works instantly. On-screen finger sensor on 6a and 7 are problematic for me. I switched to Moto ThinkPhone and it has been a dream to use. Think phone gets immediate security and OS updates and everything works flawlessly. Couldn't be happier.

the pixel 8 is free right now when you add a line and it's a much better phone.

6a is still good on OS updates till 2025 and security updates till 2027. If it still runs well I'd keep it.
Trade in deals aren't as good as before and the bonus this time is just $100 store gift card (instead of pixel buds)
No!! I went from the 4a to the 7a on launch day...and have regretted it ever since. Wait until the 8a actually comes out at least, and see some reviews. I'm waiting for the 9 to come out this fall, but I'm not buying on launch day again. I learned my lesson. The battery is the main issue on the 7a, but I've heard that it's just as bad on the 8. The 4a was a tank, and that battery would go days without a charge. With very light use on the 7, if it's not charged every day, you'll wake up and it's at 15%. It's terrible, and that's what all the reviews said too if I would have waited and read them. And it really hasn't made any other improvements since the 4. Keep using yours until it dies is my advice.

I added the same finger 3 times on my Pixel 7, and it still mostly doesn't work. Maybe works 5-10% of the time

The upfront discount is available for existing FI customers. For new customers it's 24 months credit. Here's how some became an existing customer quickly and ordered the S24 Ultra with upfront discount in Feb. I don't if FI has plugged the loop hole though.
1. Create a new Google FI account with unlimited plus or flexible plan.
2. Wait for the first bill to be finalized in 3-4 days.
3. Order the phone with 24 months credit as a new customer.
4. Cancel the order.
5. The offer for upfront discount as an existing customer should be available in your account.
You still have to be with FI for 120 days so that's roughly $120 on top of $299 for the phone,

I too, I'm a Fi customer as well. It looks like you still need to keep the phone actived on the line in order to get this deal.
Otherwise I would scoop this up and flip it.
