Review[notebookcheck.net]. Lenovo considers this a workstation, but it doesn't have a dedicated GPU. AMD CPU is two years old but still has great performance. Weight is 3.21 lbs per the review.

Its a very good system and pretty decent for the price. Compared to the $600-700 ThinkPad E14, this one has more ram 32gb vs 16gb and a Ryzen 7 CPU vs a Ryzen 5, plus a Graphics card.
I purchase a lot of Lenovo laptops. No issue with the newer business ones yet, still running my 6 year old Thinkpad X1 daily. Yoga ones sometimes the hinges break. Old ones from 12 years ago had hinge problems too. Have not been an issue lately.
oh no it's a U processor and it's considered a workstation?
I agree that they are trying to have their cake and eat it too (e.g. "P14s" and "workstation") and it is deceptive. 6850HS and H were not that big of an improvement, though.
This was a decent line. No problems with the T14 but did have one user crack a screen on a p16s, purportedly through no fault of their own but when is it ever their fault? We did have annoying issues with thunderbolt docking stations and 6850u laptops, but that may have been limited to EliteBooks. Just got users non-TB docking stations instead.

Need a laptop for son for college. This seems decent, with further discounts from Amex, etc.
Any opinions on if this is a good laptop and good deal?
Wait for more Memorial Day sales?
Wait till back to schools sales?
TIA
You could do worse. My son used this for college this past year. No issues at all. I paid a little over 6 about 10 months ago, but that was outlet pricing.

I bought an L14 recently and had an issue where the keyboard frequently wouldn't work after waking from sleep. Had an exchange and the same issue. Is Lenovo reliable because I was really enjoying it otherwise?

A laptop with 32GB of ram and a Ryzen CPU like this made for business professionals is very good for most college students. If the student is doing engineering 3D models or working with 4k media, they may need a more power machine, but 95% of most other students should be fine. This is better than what most businesses give their staff every 5 years. If your not sure, ask the college what the student will require for their major, engineering colleges generally have specs for laptops or provide students with one.

I haven't had that issue, but I generally buy the E14 and Thinkbook models cause they look a little nicer and are often on sale. I think I only have one L14 and no issues so far. I have not seen any keyboard issues on them the last few years.
I always add at least a 3 yr warranty to all business computers I buy just in case.

The 45% NTSC screens Lenovo puts out are terrible....returned a T14s mainly because of that.
I believe P14s is same frame as T14 also, not T14s for those that care about form factor.
